Pearl “Toby” Margaret Tobin Addington passed away on June 4, 2024, after a short illness. Pearl was born in Langford, SD to John Tobin and Pauline Hendershott Tobin on September 18, 1925.
After an early education in a one-room school near her family farm (to which she traveled on horseback with her siblings), Pearl attended Langford High School. Following graduation, she moved to Minneapolis, MN to complete her medical laboratory and x-ray technical training, before settling in Miles City, MT to work at Holy Rosary Hospital.
In April 1945 she was married to Donald Browning Addington and their family ultimately grew to include two sons. Pearl was active in the Methodist Church, frequently volunteered as an election worker, and engaged in countless craft projects with friends over the years. A voracious reader, she kept an extensive handwritten card catalog listing every book she read, complete with brief reviews.
She enjoyed travel and visited many locations in the US and abroad. As one of many cousins raised near her South Dakota home, Pearl rarely missed the bi-annual family reunions they held in later years.
She was preceded in death by her brother James and is survived by her sister Christine of Sioux Falls, her sons Jeff (Lindsay) of Missoula and John of Helena, two grandchildren, Tobin(Libby) and Aislinn (Sean) all of Missoula, nieces and nephews, and two great grandchildren.
Per her wishes no funeral services will be held.
Memorials should be made to a charity of your choice.

Kind thoughts being sent to cousins Jeff, John and their families. It was a surprise to see this notice of a seemingly ageless Toby. I enjoyed seeing her during MC visits and catching up on news. She was a classy woman and friend; a great addition to the Browning family. Fond memories will remain.

Whenever I think of Toby I remember the snake that we were playing with as kids. Of course John said we had to move it before she got home. We got busy and forgot to pick it up. Sorry for the loss of a great lady.

Dear John & Jeff and families,
Toby was one of my all-time favorite people. She was my own mother’s contemporary, but never seemed like it – always more like a girlfriend, so much fun to see and visit with. Her smile would just light up a room.
God bless,
Mary Ann Stockhill Liles

Jeff, John and families – I am so sorry for the loss of your mom. I lived in the apartment below her for many years at Ken’s. I have many fond memories of her and enjoyed visiting with her. She was always interested in the family. When she was no longer able to attend church, even though I lived below her, I still missed her presence at church. Prayers and hugs.

Such an amazing nice lady. I lived in the building where toby lived in miles city and when I had my son she was always so happy to see him and how he was doing. she was always looking out the window to see when we were home and greeted us by the door. My son has always loved going up there to her apt during Christmas because she had a ceramic tree that Santa and the reindeer were flying around. when i found out she was moving out it broke my heart she honestly was so kind to me and my son. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time.
