She attended schools in Park Rapids, in Canada and also at Eden Valley School east of Sherwood, North Dakota. She married Raymond Mattern on July 13, 1938 in Sherwood, ND where they farmed. In 1947, they moved to Mohall where Pearl worked for Red Owl until 1955. They moved to Culbertson, Montana in 1955, where she worked for Miller food until 1956. Pearl enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching Mariners baseball, bowling and sewing. She especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in various activities. The highlight of her life was spending time with her grandchildren. Pearls laughter brought smiles to many people.
