Penny Louise Thex Capra, age 76 of Ashland passed away on January 26, 2013 at Canyon Creek Memory Care in Billings, MT.
Penny Louise Thex Capra was born December 10th 1936 in Miles City Montana to Calvin and Alice Thex. She grew up and spent her life on the family ranch on Otter Creek. Although she was an only child, she always said she never felt like it because of the close ties with her cousins Dick, Jack, Joyce, Ted, and Jane Fletcher. She met the love of her life, Junior Capra, while attending high school in Broadus. They were married on December 11th, 1955 and were together for 57 years. Shortly after high school Penny graduated from Billings Business College then worked as a bookkeeper for TRECO in Ashland MT until her retirement in 1980.
She loved all animals, especially cats and dogs, loved to ride horses, play the piano, and together with Junior danced many nights away. She was very proud of her yard and the beautiful flowers that grew there. Penny was an amazing cook and was well known for her huge, fabulous meals and chocolate chip cookies. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Through the years she was a member of ladies bowling and golf leagues in Broadus, and ladies Bridge Club on Otter Creek. Her biggest pride and joy were her children Cindy, Sandy, and Brad to whom she was an outstanding mother.
Her brother Sonny, parents Calvin and Alice, and husband Junior preceded Penny in death. She is survived by her children Cindy (Tom) Marking, Sandy (Thane) Thomas, and Brad Capra, granddaughters Lindsay (Jessie) Graef, Stacy (Matt) Hagedorn, and Cori Thomas, and great-grandchildren Autumn and Mica Graef, Kassie and Anna Hagedorn.

I would like to extend my sincere sympathies to Penny’s family. It has been my pleasure to have known her for a long time through her participation in Range Telephone board meetings and functions with Junior. She had a beautiful smile, was a very caring person and definitely had the gift of gab and I mean that as sincere compliment. I won’t be able to make the funeral as I will be out of town for meetings, but I sure will be thinking of her and saying a prayer for the family on Thursday.

Capra family – Extending my deepest sympathy and prayers for your loss. Penny was such an elegant lady and she and Louis such a handsome couple. They are now joined in heaven dancing together again. She expressed to me often the importance of quality of life when her own father was ill and I understood fully because I experienced the same feelings when my father was ill. It’s a painful thing losing parents, at any age. Your memories of your parents will bring tears and laughter, cherish those memories always. God bless you.
Cathleen Bell says
I am so grateful that I had the opportunityto care for your Mom at Canyon Creek. Your Mot reminded me so much of my own mother, from the sound of her voice, to her style and grace. She allowed me to love her, and returned the same to me. She never called me by name, but always recognized me when she saw me. I will forever be grateful to have known her.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
May God’s Grace surround you now and always….CAT
