Penny Lynn LaFlamme, 54, passed away early Thanksgiving morning 22 November 2012 at Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, Montana. Penny’s life was special; she was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome at birth. She was born on November 5, 1958 in Ekalaka, Montana, the daughter of Millard and Patsy (Penn) LaFlamme.
Penny had a cute but ornery sense of humor and she liked to tease her family, caregivers and housemates. She never spoke a word but always got her point across. Her parents kept her at home for 22 years and after that, she came home every weekend for the next ten years.
Penny has been a resident of the Boxelder Group Home in Miles City for many years. She enjoyed her tasks of recycling newspapers and other items at Eastern Montana Industries. She was a loving soul and if she liked you, you might get a hug along with a dutch rub. And for someone who could not talk she could be very bossy. She enjoyed time with her family, especially her father, but was always ready to go back to Boxelder Home by the end of the day.
Penny is survived by her father, Millard LaFlamme of Broadus, Montana; her brothers: Wade LaFlamme of Broadus, Montana, Donald (Marcia) Gray of Stafford, Virginia, and Richard (Joyce) Loeding of Spokane, Washington; one aunt, Sharon Sorenson of Bismark, ND; many nieces and nephews and many special friends at Boxelder Group Home and EMI.
Penny was preceded in death by her mother, Patsy (Penn) LaFlamme 3 March 2007, and her grandparents: Joe LaFlamme and Frances Lampert, Samuel and Anna (Kortum) Penn.

Richard and Linda Meidinger says
So sorry to hear of your loss of Penny. Richards son Keith Meidinger was a client of EMI
for about 25 years and we do not remember or know Penny but I’m sure Keith and Penny knew one another over the years. Keith is now in Billings closer to where his mother is, we have moved from Kinsey to S.D. so we have him a couple of times each summer but he misses the farm so gets bored with us. So we know how it can be hard to have them but also would be so tough to lose them. Bless you and her family. Linda and RIchard Meidinger

Dear Millard Family,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Penny. I worked with Penny years ago at Boxelder group home and have to say she was my favorite. I remembered when i first started and everyone would warn me to watch out or she would get me in a headlock…needless to say…i didn’t watch out!! She did get me a few times and as little as she was she had a strong hold! She was always so fun and full of spirit! She will be greatly missed at EMI. R.I.P Penny
