Phyllis Teeth, Měehneheˇe “Appearing Woman”, age 73, journeyed to the other camp on September 4, 2016.
She was born on August 4, 1943 to Frank Teeth and Marie Americanhorse. Phyllis attended school at ST. Labre until she graduated in 1960. She then went on to the relocation program in Oakland, California to become a machinist. She tended bar at various bars. She also worked at the Mission factory in Ashland.
She made a life long relationship with Hugh Jones. From this relationship they had 2 sons, Neil Jones and Merlin Jones, Sr. Later in life, she met George Elk Shoulder Sr. They spent many years together.
Phyllis enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking gardening, canning from her garden, cutting dry meat, and she was well known for her ability to make moccasins in one night for ceremonies and for those who journeyed on.
Those who preceded her in death were her sons Aaron Samson and Merlin Jones, Sr.; her parents Frank Teeth and Marie Americanhorse; sisters Iola and Celestene Teeth; brothers Ross and Austin Teeth and Lafe Harris; and special niece, Edith Teeth, whom she raised.
She is survived by her special granddaughter April Jones, whom she raised for 10 years, Celestine Jones, Merlin Jones Jr, Brett Jones, and Shawn Jones. Her family includes Hiwalker, Littlebird, Limberhand, Americanhorse, Longroach, Spang, Sioux, Brady, Seminole, Littlewhiteman, Sooktis, Shoulderblade, Rising Sun, Knowshisgun, Weaselbear, Harris, Spotted Elk and Stands in Timber.
