In Memory Of

Polly A. Norris

June 2, 1919 – December 17, 2011

Polly A. Norris died early Saturday morning Dec. 17, 2011 after a very long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 2, 1919 on the family homestead north of Terry to Ray Grant and Matilda Pettersen Grant, the youngest of 4 children. At the age of 6 Polly and her family moved into Terry so she and her siblings could attend school. However Polly always said the best times were the summers spent out home in the country. She graduated from Terry High School in 1937 having attended all 12 yrs in Terry.

On April 9, 1938 Polly married Lawrence Norris in Terry. Shortly thereafter they bought the home ranch just north of the Little Sheep Mountain. Along with Hereford cattle they raised turkeys and milked beef cows so they had cream to sell. Their daughter Echo was born in 1942 and their son Grant (Ed) was born in 1946. In 1954 they bought another ranch just south of the Big Sheep Mountain. Lawrence passed away in April of 1964 leaving Polly and her son Ed to run the ranch. She retired in 1974 and moved to Blackfoot ID to be close to her daughter and family. She bought a home there, worked a short time at Gambles and then at the American Potato Research Center. When Research closed down for the winter months she would return to the ranch to spend time with Ed and his family.

In 1989 Polly returned to Terry and bought a home in town. Polly loved the outdoors and loved her yard work. She was passionate about her gardening, her beautiful flower beds and her yard. Polly was also an avid Terry Terrier fan and never missed a game that her granddaughters participated in. She always had a bucket of sandwiches ready to take on long out of town trips to ball games. Even after the girls graduated she continued to attend games with her good friend Vi Fluss for as long as she was able. Another passion of Polly´s were her crafts. She was constantly trying new patterns and making things for her family. Many things that she made for her grandchildren have now been passed down to her great grandchildren. Up to a year ago Polly was donating her crafts to be sold as a fundraiser for the Relay For Life cancer organization in Billings.

Polly was a double cancer survivor, first breast cancer then cervical cancer. She insisted on living in her home with the help of family and friends for as long as she was able to. In November of this year she moved to Cottonwood Care in Miles City where she was very content and comfortable and so pleased with the good care she received.

She is survived by her son Ed (Sheryl)Norris of Terry , her daughter Echo Garro of Moses Lake, WA , 7 grandchildren....Tami Norris (Jesse)Hartmann, Misti Norris (Dan) Rhyner, Candy Norris, Terrica Norris, Tony (Lori) Garro, Juanita Garro (Brad) Hemovich and Sabrina Garro. Also 16 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence, her brother Donald Grant, sisters Ellen Schrock and Clara Pering, and son in law Joe Garro.

Cremation has taken place and private graveside services are pending. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.
