In Memory Of

Ramsey Adair, 83, of Hysham

May 21, 1930 – February 3, 2014

On Monday, February 3, 2014, a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend left this world to go to a much better place.  Ramsey McKee Adair was born on May 21, 1930, to James R.M. and Anna (Riemath) Adair in Yankton, South Dakota.  At an early age, the family moved to Firesteel, DS where Ramsey spent his early boyhood days until his family moved to Timber Lake, SD.  In Timber Lake is where he was enrolled in the fifth grade and then later graduated from high school with the class of 1948.  On September 14, 1958 he married the love of his life LaVon Badure in Timber Lake, SD.

After graduating, he worked at the Firesteel coal mine with his good friend “Smitty”.  He then worked for Moreau Grand Electric Cooperative in Timber Lake as a lineman until he was drafted into the Army.  After being discharged from the Army, Ramsey worked for 35 years for Mid-Yellowstone Electric Cooperative in Hysham as a Line Superintendent under the supervision of his mentor and friend, Carl Egge.  Ramsey also owned Hysham Electric.

Ramsey was proud of his military service having served in the Army Combat Infantry in Korea.  He received the Bronze Star Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.  He was a life member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the 15th Infantry Regiment Association. Ramsey belonged to the Community Presbyterian Church of Hysham, Lions Club, American Legion Post 11, Hysham Masonic Lodge No. 129.

He served the town of Hysham as Fire Chief and Councilman for many years, and he was appointed to the office of Mayor for one year to fill the vacancy caused with the resignation of Cletus Taylor.

His devotion to the Community Presbyterian Church was proven by his service with a total of 24 years as Ruling  elder and 3 years as a Deacon.

Ramsey loved to reminisce about his youth in Firesteel and Timber Lake.  He often told stories of his memories he had.  He loved to tease the kids and have a joke or wild story to tell the grownups.

Ramsey is survived by his loving wife, LaVon “Vonnie”, brother Jim (Cornelia) Adair, sister Beatrice Burch, and Adair nephews Jim and Randy and all of the numerous Badure nieces and nephews.

We will miss your sense of humor, my dancing partner, and your love of life and yes, even your German and Korean song, but as you would tell us: “So Be It!”

Funeral Services will be Monday, February 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Community Presbyterian Church in Hysham.  Burial will follow services in the Hysham Vale Memorial Cemetery.  Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth is assisting the family with these arrangements and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com

Ram Adair was the kindest, most gentle person you would ever want to meet. He and Vonnie were the perfect couple, they would have been great parents and they would have been fantastic grandparents. I feel very fortunate to have know Ramsey as long as I did. When you look up the defination of a gentleman, it was just what Ram was a
Gentle Man!!!! In closing Ram’s favorite saying were just three simple words “So BE IT”.

My sincere condolences to the family of Ramsey McKee Adair – I am sorry to hear of your loss. May you find comfort in many great memories of Mr. Adair. The promise of Paradise, the perfect conditions God originally arranged for mankind in the Garden of Eden will be fulfilled including God’s “will being done as in Heaven also upon Earth” (Matthew 6:9, 10). Also the Bible promises a resurrection of dear family members and friends that we have lost (John 5:28, 29). I hope that you are comforted by the many wonderful Bible promises (John 17:3).

06/20/2015 I just learned of the passing of my “Uncle Ramsey” Through the years our side of the family had little communication. I remember Ramsey as having a German shepherd, a cool convertible T-bird and a pretty wife. I think I may have last seen him in the 1960’s. He was a favorite. I am sad to say I did not know much about him until I read this. Thanks and my sincerest and kindest regards to Vonnie and all the family.

Add your thoughts and memories. Upon approval they will be added.
