On October 20, 1947, William Weber Mongar, Grace Wilma Mongar, and big sister Billie Ann were blessed to receive their baby, Randall Jay Mongar, in Livingston, Montana. Big sister, Billie Ann, fell in love right away.
The family moved to Butte when Randy was two and he spent most of his life growing up in Butte, Montana at the Molton Reservoir where he enjoyed the freedom to run, play, and explore to his heart’s content.
Randy graduated from Butte High School and did a machinist apprenticeship with the Anaconda Company. He worked there until 1983 and then moved his family to Colstrip, Montana and worked for Montana Power and PP&L until his retirement in 2005.
Randy was a voracious reader and has a huge collection to prove it. He was very good at anything he tried and he tried and he tried many things. His favorite passion was creating with wood. Some of the amazing treasures he made were 3 beautiful boats, 2 spinning wheels, an amazing harp, a grandfather clock, dulcimers, toy boxes, toys, and bowls. His latest interest was model train building. He loved working on those teeny, tiny treasures.
Randy and the love of his life, Barbara DeWitt, were married in Butte, Montana on June 9, 1973. Born of their marriage are the treasures of their love: Amanda “Mandy”, Eric, and Caroline “Carrie”.
Randy will sadly be missed by this loving wife Barbara.
Children: Mandy and Ricker Olson, Eric and Amanda Mongar, Carrie and Stace Rosman. Grandchildren: Taylor and Nova Rosman, and Christopher and Jovei Mongar.
Sister: Billie Ann Smith and Honorary Siblings: Robert & Sheila DeWitt, Ron & Lynda DeWitt, Darlene Edwards, Darla & Bill Moran, Angel & Joe Silverthorne, and Dave & Chris DeWitt. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents: Grace and Bill Mongar, his honorary parents by marriage, Robert and Yvonne DeWitt, his grandson, Colton John Mongar, and many Angels that have went before him to guide his way.
