Randall J. Riley, 49 of Worden and Poplar, MT passed away June 5, 2006 at home surrounded by family and friends after a courageous fight with cancer.
Randall was born to Joyce Nelsen on June 12, 1956 in Poplar MT and graduated from Poplar High School in May 1974. He was married to Bonnie Hanson Riley on December 6, 1975, they made their life in Poplar for 30 years and now reside in Worden, MT. Randall was employed by Axelson, Inc. for 13 years and was owner of Riley Pump and Supply for 17 years. He was also owner of several small businesses throughout the years including 1st Ave Quick Wash, R & B Auto with Brad Tande, and the Shamrock Bar & Casino with family and friends. He was involved in many civic duties which included the pride he took in being a volunteer fireman for 22 years, 5 of which he was Fire Chief. He was Mayor of Poplar from 1981-1989. He also served on the Poplar TV District, Poplar Chamber of Commerce and Poplar Housing Authority. He was President of the Chamber of Commerce in 1991 & 1992. For many years Randall participated in the annual Wild West Days Parade and the annual Christmas Lighting of Downtown. He sponsored and coached youth basketball tournaments for many years.
The joys in his life were his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and volunteering in his community. He was always eager to lend a helping hand to anyone.
Randall is survived by his wife; Bonnie of Worden, MT, Son; David (Becky) Riley of Worden, MT, and grandsons; Laython and Brock of Billings, MT., Daughter; Nichole (Mike) Eastman of Billings, MT. and Son; Douglas Riley of Worden, MT., Brothers and Sisters; Barb (Stanley) Wang of Fertile, MN, Karen (Claude) Adamson of Glendive, MT, Monte (Linda) Riley of Mt. Zion, ILL., Larry (Margaret) Riley of Malden, Mo., Lanny (Flo) Riley of Poplar, MT, Bonnie Bechtel of Poplar, MT., Paulette (Clete) Leinen of Poplar, MT, Harlan (Jackie) Riediger of Poplar, MT., Jeff (Julie) Nelsen of Havre, MT., Stepfather; Clarence Nelsen of Poplar Mt. and nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his mother Joyce Nelsen and two nephews; Mike Wang and Chaskay Ricker Jr. and a brother Dennis Riley.
Funeral services will be held at the Poplar Assembly of God Church on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served by the Poplar Legion Auxiliary Post 55 at the American Legion Club following the funeral service. Burial will take place in Worden, MT on June 12, 2006 at 10 a.m. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Robert Lane of Worden, MT. Memorials may be sent to the family at 2485 Trask Circle, Worden, MT 59088 to cover their many expenses.
