In Memory Of

Raymond “Jack” Shawver, age 73, of Jordan, MT

August 7, 1944 – November 25, 2017

Raymond “Jack” Shawver, age 73 of Jordan, blessed us with many hunting and fishing memories and stories before going to be with his nearest and dearest on Saturday, November 25th, 2017 at Holy Rosary Healthcare with loved ones by his side.

Jack was born on August 7th, 1944 to Ray and Jessie (Saylor) Shawver. He attended grade school at Squaw Creek School and moved into the dormitory to attend Garfield County High School in Jordan. Upon graduation, he proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War while stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After returning from the service, Jack went into business with his brother Phil at P & J Super Stop and numerous other business ventures. He was a natural carpenter and worked several years with his uncle Woodrow Saylor. Jack and Bob Gregg owned and operated the lumber yard and after selling he continued to build many houses, sheds, garages and a church. Jack then began his career with the Department of Revenue where he worked until he retired to take care of the love of his life, Marlene, his wife of 37 years.

Jack was a lifetime member of the VFW, NRA, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and was fire chief and long-time member of the Jordan Volunteer Fire Dept. He also served as a special deputy for the Garfield County Sheriff’s Dept.

Jack was very meticulous is everything he did. He always said, “If a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing right.” He was a very avid outdoorsman as he loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends. He truly enjoyed helping Kenney Fogle, Skip Olson, Tom and Kenni Ryan by working cattle or sheep. He was proud to be a member of the group he called “Jen and the Geritol boys” with Jen Crawford, Skip Olson, Norman Kerr, and Ernie Fogle. Jack spent many happy hours of his retirement baiting hooks with Jerry Vollmer. He loved following his children Dina and Howard in all of their sports and other adventures. Most of all he loved watching his grandchildren grow, rarely missing any of their activities.

Jack is survived by his faithful companion, Buddy; his daughter Dina (Dennis) Kuchynka, and their children Jessica (Jordan) Hanson and daughter Adalyn, Tony, Kimber, and Kenney; his son Howard (Alyssa) Shawver and their children Raymond and Rori; his daughter Jacci (Ron) Cardwell, and their children Kyle, Camdyn, Jacob and Evan; his brother Phil (Darlene) Shawver; sisters Jean Bryan, Pat LaMoure, Deb (Mike) Stoker, and Cheri (Tim) Hafla; mother and father-in-law Kenney and Alice Fogle; brothers-in-law Roger and Reuben Fogle; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene; parents Ray and Jessie Shawver; brothers-in-law Jerry Bryan and Buster LaMoure; sister-in-law Marva Fogle; nephews Clyde Shawver and Justin Bryan.

Should friends and family desire, memorials can be made to Garfield County Ambulance service, VFW (Jordan), Holy Rosary Healthcare Hospice, or the charity of choice.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. An additional visitation will also be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Jordan. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the VFH Hall in Jordan. Interment will follow in the Pioneer Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at the VFW Hall following the interment.

We wanted to share our condolences with Jack’s family. It is never easy to have to say goodbye to a loved one. The pain of loss can be unbearable. Our Creator promises us that one day this pain will be just a memory. That beautiful promise can be found at Revelation 21:3,4. Our pain and suffering will be a thing of the past, and we can cry tears of joy as we welcome back the ones that we love so much. We hope you find comfort in those promises.

    All of Jack’s family –
I have many good memories of the fun times at the Jordan dorm when Jack would pull some of his antics. The one I remember most vividly was his lesson on how to use your tongue to split a banana into three equal parts lengthwise. He’s the only person I ever knew to do it, and he made it look so easy. 4-H meetings and grade school gatherings were always full of laughter and good times when we were kids growing up out in the hills. He was a great fellow, and he will be missed. Sending my thoughts and prayers to each of you.
