Rebecca Lynne Little Sun
On the night of April 1st, 2024, we lost our angel who gained her wings and journeyed to the other camp. Born on July 6th, 1956, to Agnes Russell and Horace Little Sun, Sr. Motseohne’e (No Naming Woman), A name given to her by great-grandmother Alice Russell. She was the second oldest of eight siblings and grew up in Red Nose Valley.
She received her education from the Busby Boarding School, graduating in 1974. Upon graduating from high school, she went on to further her education & playing basketball at Haskell Indian College in Lawrence Kansas graduating with her associate degree in 1976. Her love for sports led her to play softball for the Busby Sundowners AKA The Cheyenne Suns whom are the Legends of the game.
She was employed in her earlier years with the Northern Cheyenne Ambulance Service and later went on to work with the Northern Cheyenne Tribal Schools, first as a paraprofessional for the Special Education program, she then received her Title VII License to become the Junior High and High School Cultural Teacher for many years till her passing. She was dedicated & loved teaching her students the Cheyenne language, always getting a team of students ready for the Cheyenne language bowl held at Chief Dull Knife College, also planning activities for cultural week for the school. Being the eighth-grade sponsor she was preparing her students to give a speech in Cheyenne for their promotion.
She was a proud grandmother always supporting her many grandchildren in all the sports they participated in & raising them. She was very fond of Maas-Maas (Talon Jr.) raising him as her own. Being a full supporter of family always helping those in need. She also enjoyed spending time with all her sisters going to the Charging Horse Casino & Wyoming Downs.
She always had words of encouragement and a very humorous personality, boldly telling it as it was. During family functions her famous Candied Yams were a huge hit with the crowd.

My heart goes out to Rebecca’s family at thus time. Rebecca was the cornerstone of her family. She gave to much of herself to them. My heart goes out to the staff at the NCTS, as she was one of the strong forces at the school that kept the Northern Cheyenne Culture alive. Memories of her are numerous but my last year at the school I remember her beautiful class room and the welcoming feeling you would feel when you entered her classroom. Rebecca fly high with the Lord and know you will never be forgotten for all the great things you did for the kids at school and the Northern Cheyenne Community. Sherri Bartholomew.
