Reuben N. Berg, 86, of Fort Peck, MT passed away Sunday, December 28, 2003 at Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow, MT. Reuben was born July 15, 1917 at the family home in Meeker County, MN to Paul and Ida Berg. He was one of 13 children. Reuben was baptized September 16, 1917 at Ness Lutheran Church, Litchfield, MN.
He attended country school and worked at various jobs in the area. He married Ruth Ann Bachman on April 19, 1941. In 1949, he moved from Minnesota to Poplar where he worked hard to acquire his farm in 1961. A son, Craig Allen was born July 18, 1955. He took great pride in his farm and garden, providing potatoes for many friends and neighbors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and hand crafted many ice fishing spears still used in this area. He belonged to St. Johns Lutheran Church in Poplar, Northern Unlimited and District 5 Fiddlers Association.
Reuben married Helen Martin on December 8, 1988. They lived at the Poplar farm until 1996 when they moved to Fort Peck.
Reubens first wife Ruth died in 1982 and his son Craig, in 1981. He is survived by his wife Helen, three grandchildren, Brian (Rochelle) Berg and Keri (Paul) Furthmyre of Poplar, Courtney Berg of Hardin, and 2 great grandchildren, Harlee Ryan Berg and Baylee Raye Furthmyre. One brother, Neil Berg of Wolf Point and one sister, Nellie Martin of Grove City, MN, sister-in-law Phurney Berg of Litchfield, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.
His extended family included Helens sons Larry and Sara Martin and daughter Inga of Hood River, OR and Kevin and Doreen Martin of Culbertson and sons, Kile, Chase and Dylan. He enjoyed being a part of their lives.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point with Pastor Martin Mock of Glasgow officiating. A reception will be held at the Sherman Motor Inn immediately following the service with interment following at the Poplar City Cemetery.
