In Memory Of

Rhoda Glenmore, age 73, of Busby

December 9, 1951 – January 14, 2025

Rhoda “Punks” “Auntie Punkin” May Glenmore, Éšéévá’e “Day Woman,” age 73, of Busby, was surrounded by family as she began her journey to be with her loved ones on the other side on January 14, 2025.
Punks was born to Douglas and Josephine Glenmore on December 9, 1951 in Crow Agency, Montana. She was the youngest of five children and grew up in Busby, Montana, where she attended Busby school. From a young age, Punks exhibited her passion for Cheyenne history, beading, traditional dancing, modern dancing, and art, which was evident through her numerous accolades and achievements. In 1966, Punks served as a delegate of the Northern Cheyenne youth to Moral Re-Armament’s “Up With People Demonstration” in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In 1967, she was selected as the AAIAA queen of the Northern Cheyenne powwow and traveled to powwows in Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Montana to represent her title. She even traveled as far west as Oregon to partake in the root feast celebration. In the year of 1968, she was selected by Miss Indian America XV, Thomasine Hill, as her second honor attendant for the All American Indian Days in Sheridan, Wyoming. Punks was not only passionate about her culture, but she was also dedicated to her academics and extra curricular activities. During her time as a high school student, she was an A-squad cheerleader, a 4-H leader for the Busby Cloverettes, and served as the Vice President of her class and the Secretary-Treasurer of the Busby High School Council. She finished her high school career in 1970 and graduated in May of that year.
Upon graduation from Busby High School, her sister Tuffy encouraged her to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico to become a dental assistant. She was reluctant, but ultimately listened to her sister’s advice and attended Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI). She graduated from the dental assistant program in 1972 and returned home immediately after.
Punks then found her passion as she began working at Chief Dull Knife College as a business accountant. It was said that she took on many roles and did not limit herself to being an accountant. She always offered to help wherever she was needed. In time, Punks became quite instrumental in helping disabled Cheyenne’s gain and retain employment through Vocational Rehabilitation. They expressed how honored they were to have her as support for many Cheyenne’s working at the center for twenty-six years. Punks had over thirty years of service in total, before she decided to retire from Chief Dull Knife College.
Aside from her professional career, she had numerous hobbies. She enjoyed playing softball, attending powwows, powwow team dancing, outfitting clown dancers, attending clown dances, playing cards, taking a “cruise” around town, people watching, gambling, and playing bingo. A collective memory of her is that she had any and every color of bingo dauber that you could think of; many of which were even beaded. Punks was also very fluent in the Cheyenne language and valued the Cheyenne culture. She was one of the few that could speak fluently and she emphasized the importance for her grandchildren to learn it. She taught

them everything she knew about her culture.
Punks is preceded in death by her grandparents Josie (One Bear) and John Stands In Timber, Rhoda (Parker) and Miles Seminole; her parents Josephine (Stands In Timber) and Douglas “Dave” (Seminole) Glenmore; her son CPL Vydell Yellowrobe; her siblings Verna “Tuffy” Old Mouse, Dorothy Glenmore, Floyd “Bucky” Glenmore, and Ronnie Seminole; Aunt Jennie (Seminole) Parker; brother-in-law Roger Old Mouse; nieces Shanda Glenmore and Dawnette Glenmore; nephews J.D. Punks is survived by her children C.J. Yellowrobe, Tyson Fox, and Lasha Fox; her nieces Denise Swank, Lisa Old Mouse, Ronnette Glenmore, and Mona Glenmore; nephews Shawn Old Mouse, Dale Glenmore, David Swank, Duane Swank, Shannon Glenmore, and Mylan Glenmore, Sr.; sisters Rosita and Donita Sioux; grandchildren Courtney Little Axe, Makayla (Yellowrobe) Yates, Mikah Little Axe, Tyson Yellowrobe, Jaydell Little Axe, Mariah Little Light, Mikaylia Yellowrobe, Myrei Little Light, Manny Little Light, Jaeleigh Fox, Akicita Whitewoman, Aria Fox, Oakley Fox, Tyleia Poitra, and Ta’Vaiya Pine; great-grandchildren Marlee Yates, Myla Yates, Tydell Little Axe, Zeralynn Little Axe, and Baby boy Little Axe.
After Punks’s siblings passed, she stepped up to be the mother to all of their children. Through her siblings, she had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known to numerous relatives and other friends as “grandma” or “ke’eehe.”
Extended family includes Stands in Timber, Parker, Sioux, One Bear, Bearchum, Littlewolf, Waters, Hiwalker, Spotted Elk, Spottedwolf, Eastman, Wolfname, Evans, Eagle Feathers, Brady, Small, Sooktis, Clubfoot, Woodenlegs, Spear, Whitedirt; her North Dakota family, Oklahoma Family, Australia family and various other extended families.
The family would also like to acknowledge her namesakes: Chahoristah Eastman Rowland, Maria Spang, Chloe Ortega, Misty Timber, Riley Strangeowl; Special friends: Wilma LaRance, Rhoda Bullcoming, Janice Singer, Rose Backer, Bertha “Bertie” Brown, and the late Hilda Moss; Adopted Mother: Lillian Woodenthigh; Adopted Siblings: Joe Weaselbear, Germaine Haugen, Iola Woodenthigh, Anita Weaselbear, Mildred Eaglefeathers; Adopted Children: Glenda Littlebird, DC Stewart, Mato Standing Soldier, Albert Gros Ventre, Shadow Devereaux, Erik Langan, Joey Littlebird, Dana Brady, Tony Bearcomesout, Les Birdchief, Monte Rowland, Jr., Clayton “Oly” Neiss, and numerous other Marine sons that she adopted after her son Vydell’s passing.
