Richard Dale Schutt passed away Monday April 6, 2015, at his and wife Lu’s home in Colstrip, Montana. Dale was known for being an animal lover. On the day of his passing he was sitting on his porch playing with the new batch of kitties that had moved in recently. No doubt, thinking about the upcoming spring and the garden work ahead of him. Dale was born to Linnea and Clarence Schutt, September 24, 1936. He had five siblings growing up on the family farm in Fairmont, ND: Cliff, Audrey, Arlen, Lloyd and Milton. Dale graduated from Fairmont High School in 1955, he recently received his invitation to the 60th Class Re-Union to be held this summer. On February 21,1957 Richard Dale Schutt enlisted to the U.S. Navy, as was a family tradition to serve in the military. Dale served as an Aviation Machinist, very fitting for Dale with his interest in mechanics. Dale was Honorably Discharged in 1961. He returned home, began work at the LeMars Elevator, was briefly married to Gloria Lehman. They had a son, Dean.
Soon thereafter Dale got the same idea that coming to Montana like Brothers: Cliff, Lloyd and Milton had, might be O.K. So he did. He held a variety of jobs and enjoyed the open spaces.
Along the way Dale met LuElla, they married and ended up in Colstrip. Dale worked as a ranch hand, which he enjoyed as it kept him doing the variety of tasks he most enjoyed. Lu had her career at MPC. Together they enjoyed the Moose Lodge, Cliff and Jackie Schutt’s company, and community activities. Dale always had his garden and the two of them enjoyed the goodies from it. As life does, these final years were waning. Dale is survived by his wife of 42 years Lu, currently staying with family until new residence is established. Dale is also survived by sister Audrey Jacobs, brother Arlen (Marlene). As well as Lu’s children, Julie Linthacum Wright, LaMark Lane Linthacum(Terry) and Donella Linthacum Cyr(John). 5 Grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. All of the Schutt family nieces and nephews, families and many friends.
Lu requests your presence at a memorial for Dale, Saturday April 18 2015. To be held at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Colstrip MT at 11 AM, reception to follow. Dale’s cremains will be taken for inurnment “back home” to Fairmont ND. A ceremony has been planned for Cliff, who passed 10/22/14 and Jackie, for June of this year. We, with Lu’s wish granted will include Dale in this
journey.
