In Memory Of

Richard E. Moore, age 93, of Miles City

February 27, 1929 – December 5, 2022

There was always love in Daddy’s hands and we adored him! Richard “Dick” Earl Moore passed away on December 5, 2022, to his eternal Heavenly home. He was born to Earl and Mildred (Nelson) Moore on February 27, 1929, in Ambrose, ND and was raised on a farm between Westby, MT and Crosby, ND. At every family reunion, the family joked that Earl said Mildred had such a difficult time in childbirth that Richard was going to be an only child. They said Earl almost kept his promise as there were only ten more children to follow.

Richard graduated from Westby High School in 1947 and went to California to work for his Uncle Ken in the orange orchards. Later, he returned to the farm to help his dad. He was working part-time at a jewelry store for his cousin in Crosby when he met his future wife, Dolly Larson. They were married in Crosby, ND on March 11, 1951.

After farming with his dad for a time, he rented a farm South of Westby. When they started building the radar base at Fortuna, ND, he put his farmland in the soil bank and went to work helping to build that radar base. When that radar base was completed, he was transferred to Miles City in 1962 to be the foreman on the radar base West of Miles City. When the radar base in Miles City was completed, having a rather large family, instead of moving again, he decided to put down roots and start his own small construction company, “Dick’s Construction”. He started out building houses and then graduated to steel buildings and grain bins. In his later years, he did mostly remodeling. He was a very hard worker and worked very hard to support his family.

Richard is survived by six children, Greg Moore and his wife Debie, Monte Moore, Amy Jo Labree and her husband Buddy, Scott Moore and his partner Sharon Warmbrod Stein all of Miles City, MT; Debbie Wagner and her husband Del of Spokane, WA and Merrilee Campbell and her husband Joe of Billings, MT. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He is survived by three sisters, Ferne Schulz of Mission, KS, Marlys Nordhagen of Plentywood, MT and Doris Jacobson of Parshall, ND; two brothers, Calvin Moore and his wife Sharla of White Sulpher Springs, MT and Danny Moore and his wife Val of Plentywood, MT. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Dolly, infant daughters Cleo Lynn, Kristy Lee, infant son Kelly Dean, parents Earl and Mildred Moore, brothers Lloyd Moore, Norman Moore, Ronnie Moore and Doran Moore and sister Sharon Kay Forinash.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022 from 1:00 p.m to 6:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Dick Moore Family, My deepest condolences to you all. I remember when you all moved to the valley close to Kircher School and became part of our community and “family”. Our families became hard and fast friends that endured through the years, and there are lots of memories to re-live. Dick gave me my first “non ranch/farm” job and I worked summers for Dick’s Construction while going to college. Dick always had a twinkle in his eyes and a story to tell. I saw him a couple years back at the Airport Inn and he had to tell my daughter the story about when he was constructing a church in town and I was on the roof, and came sliding off on a sheet of plywood like a magic carpet. He was a great boss and a great friend. God bless you all, as our prayers and thoughts are with you.

    Hvil i fred Richard.
