Richard Dick Lee Kolka, age 65, of Boise, Idaho, formerly of Miles City, MT, passed away, Friday, July 13, 2007 at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Boise, ID.
Richard was born in Miles City, MT, May 13, 1942 to John and Margaret (Decker) Kolka. He grew up south of Miles City in Stacey, MT, where he attended kindergarten through the eighth grade. Richard attended high school in Miles City at Custer County District High School and graduated in 1960. He worked around Miles City until November 1961 at which time he enlisted in the US Navy. After serving his country for four and a half years he returned home in 1966 and started working for the Montana Highway Department. He would work with the Highway Dept. until 1982 when a car accident left him paralyzed. Richard would then spend his time volunteering, most recently with the Miles City Police Dept. admin offices. Complications from being in a wheelchair had Richard in and out of the VA hospital in Seattle. After spending more than a year in the hospital, Richard was transferred to the Idaho State Veterans Home in Boise, ID in July of 2006. This put Richard close to his two sons and six grandchildren.
Richard is survived by one son, Kirby (Traci) of Meridian, ID; one brother, John Kolka of Volborg, MT; and six grandchildren all of Boise/Meridian, ID. Richard was preceded in death by his oldest son, Brian, 2006.
