Interment: Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579.
Richard (Tom) H. Picken (1928-2010), 81 died on June 26, 2010 of pneumonia in Miles City, MT.
He was born on August 24, 1928 in Minneapolis, MN to Hunter and Emele. He graduated from Hoover High in San Diego, CA. He served in the U.S. Army airborne unit as a paratrooper in 1946. He married Ethel (Dolly) Warmbo in 1952. He attended San Diego State and the University of North Dakota where he studied law. After completing his education, Tom joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was a Special Agent assigned to Mobile, AL; Panama City, FL; El Paso, TX; Butte, MT; Miles City, MT; and finished out his career in San Diego, CA. After his retirement from the FBI in 1979 he was employed as a security officer and private investigator.
Throughout his life he enjoyed music and playing racquetball. Tom was an accomplished musician and composer. He had the opportunity to play for one of the Big Bands Harry James. He treasured his friends and had the gift of gab. He loved talking football with his son.
Survivors include his wife Jeannine of 21 years, his son Thomas H. (Sandy), his daughter Jennifer, his three grandchildren-Jace, Ryan, and Dani as well as four great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his half-brothers-Max Philip Vander Horck, John Hunter Picken, and his half-sister Ruth Mary Christofferson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 with family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
