Ricky Rae Young, 65, of Forsyth, died on December 13, 2015 at Rosebud Health Care Center after battling a long illness.
Rick was born the oldest of three children on January 18, 1950 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Horace “Tink” and Effie (Coughlin) Young. He attended schools throughout Montana and graduated from Billings Senior High School. After graduation, Rick began working at Long Construction in Colstrip.
He came from a family proud of serving in the Military, and in January of 1971, Rick decided to join that rich legacy by enlisting in the Marine Corp. He served honorably for several years. Upon completion of his Military service, Rick returned to Colstrip and his job at Long Construction, which later became Western Energy. He retired after 40 years. During that time he raised 2 sons: Ricky Jr. and Jimmy.
On November 4, 1995, Rick was united in marriage to Sharon Hofferber. They have spent the last 20 years together hunting, fishing, camping and simply enjoying being with each other.
Rick was a skilled artist and enjoyed wood-working. Recently Ricky was honored for obtaining localized healthcare and medical service for his fellow Veteran’s in Forsyth, and received a Congressional Citation for his efforts.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father and a daughter-in-law.
He is survived by his loving mother, Effie Young; his loving wife, Sharon; sons: Ricky Ray ( Karen) and Jimmy Young, both of Billings; brothers Harold (Irene) Young of Colstrip and Randy Young of Sioux Falls, SD; 6 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth. Military Honors will follow, along with a reception at the Funeral Home.

I worked with Rick at the mine many years ago, I always enjoyed visiting with him at work.
Then a few years ago he moved into my neighborhood. He was still the same funny guy I new at the mine back in the 80’s.
He will be missed, he was one of the great people that many of us knew from work and from around town. His family is in our prayers.
