Rita J. Lindvold, age 86, of Miles City passed away September 5, 2016 at Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.
Rita was born in Miles City on October 30, 1929 to Jesse and Doris (Popp) Harris. Rita attended grade school for six years at Elk Creek School in Sonnette, two years at Terret Butte School on Butte Creek, three years at Powder River High School and graduated from Custer County High School. She married Raymond Rumph Sept. 30th 1949 at Wesburn, Saskatchewan. Rita and Raymond returned to Montana and worked for Thompson-Nefsy at Cohagen, Montana. They then moved to Butte Creek in Powder River County to take up ranching. They had 3 children, Linda, Lorraine and Terry. Raymond passed away July 4th, 1954. At the age of 25 Rita suffered a stroke and had other setbacks in life although she was always quick to laugh and had a great sense of humor. Everyone who met or knew Rita mentioned she was always smiling. In 1957 her son Tom was born. In 1974 she married LuVern Lindvold and they later divorced.
Rita’s life was her children and grandchildren and going to their games and activities. If she was unable to go she would be glued to the radio listening to their games. Rita enjoyed horses, ranch life and working on the ranch. She was a true cowgirl at heart. She loved spending time at Tom and Kitty’s place with the road trips to the old homestead on Butte Creek and reminiscing of years gone by and also visiting at Linda and Greg’s home in Miles City. She enjoyed travelling to Oregon and Washington to visit Terry and Lorraine and their families. One of her most memorable trips was a cruise to Alaska.
In addition to her parents Rita was predeceased by brothers Jerry, Roger and Don Harris.
She is survived by her sons Terry (Judy) Rumph of Portland, OR and Tom (Kitty) Riggs of Broadus, MT; daughters Linda (Greg) Losinski and Lorraine (Larry) Dunbar of Kennewick, WA, 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren a brother Ed (Sandra) Harris of Colorado Springs, CO and a sister Mary Rose Hettinger of Great Falls, MT and numerous nephews and a nieces.

Linda….my heart is breaking for you and your family. Rita was one of the sweetest, kindest and most gentle souls with the largest smile on her face all the time. Life is always such a challenge, and she had many challenges from early on, but she went on and made the best of what could be for her. She raised a beautiful daughter who is one of my best friends and I sincerely thank her for that! I don’t know the rest of her children as well, as you Linda, but know that with Rita’s love and guidance they must be just as loving as you are…Rita, I am so sorry we never got out to that lunch we talked about, but know that I will always be thinking of you when I am with Linda! Rest in peace and fly with the angels as you will be one of the most beautiful who will be looking down on us and guiding us until we meet again ….

Our deepest condolences to family and friends. It is very painful to say goodbye to someone we love. So we will not say goodbye, just, ‘see you later’. And until we say hello again, every loving memory will be like the warming rays of sun which help to bring comfort from the pain and sorrow. May the promise of the resurrection to life everlasting on earth give you hope and peace that is beyond all understanding. (John 11:23-26; Revelation 21:3,4.) Heartfelt prayers are with you.
