Robert Alan Ashley, age 64, of Miles City passed away on Thursday, May 15,
2008 at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Robert was born on November 8, 1943 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Ralph and Evelyn (Lamb) Ashley. He attended schools and graduated from Flint High School in Michigan. Following his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served during the Vietnam Conflict. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he moved to Miles City, Montana where he began working at Pine Hills School and at the VA Medical Center. He worked at the VA for over twenty years before retiring. He remained in Miles City where he lived until the time of his death.
Robert loved to socialize. He also enjoyed watching sports. He was a member of the VFW.
Robert is survived by his wife, Landa D. Smith of Miles City, MT; two sons: Mathew Ashley of California; and Spencer C. Ashley of Miles City, MT; a step-son, Scott (Lori) Smith of Miles City, MT; a step-daughter, Kim (Jerry) Barnaby of Gillette, WY; a sister, Laura Susie Burgess of Arizona; and two grandchildren.
A military graveside service will be held on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Miles City with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
