I just googeld Robert and learned of his passing this evening. 12 yrs later. 2020. the year of the bat.
the eddies were a big part of me and my sibblings childhoods. a couple yrs during a childhood was a big chunk. there seemed to be a eddie for each one of us. then all of a sudden they left custer ave and moved to miles city montana. amazingly Robert just out of the blue reappear in my life one day for short while . on a bike of course. a 10 speed and there he was …..hanging with me and my teen buddies. we rode tricycles together before we were even in school and here we were again.
I was there standing next to him that day he was hit by a car on 1st and broadwater. it was rush hour…it was dark….we’d yell at the cars to go home! “Go home! Go home!” but the cars just kept zooming by…we should not have been “across” broadwater but we just wanted to play where a house was just torn down to make room for a gas station. so here we were…5, 6 yrs old? and robert just says fuck it (im guessing) and dashes across broadwater ave at 5:30 pm…it was autumn!! & next thing I remember is a big guy getting out of the car that just hit robert, and picking robert up from the ground in front of the car and caried him home from there in the middle of he intersection just leaving his car at the spot. (ironically one of said buddies was hit on second and custer a few yrs later) I dont remember how or when I crossed broadwater to get home that night..I dont know how that guy knew where to take robert home either. there was a crowd so perhaps a neighbour gave directions..anyway I was there.
