Robert L. Bob Edwards, our beloved husband and father, passed away on March 21, 2005 at the age of 62 in Jordan, MT.
Robert L Edwards was born on Dec. 10, 1942. He was raised at his parent's ranch north of Jordan MT where he lived until the age of 17. He enlisted in the Navy proudly serving his country for six years before coming back to Montana. Bob spent the next 14 years working on ranches in eastern Montana. When he broke his back, recovery took awhile and he was unable to continue cowboying. For the next 13 years Bob drove truck back and forth across the United States. In 2000, he switched to ranching north of Jordan. In his lifetime he worked hard at everything he did. He had a way of seeing things that others missed when it came to kids, animals, and people in general. He had a way with the animals and understood what it took to make them understand what he wanted. Some call it "reading between the lines". He could tell you where the deer would be during hunting season, which coulee the cows were in when no one else could find them. He knew a lot more than he ever let on. Of course you had to work sometimes to get him to talk. Very direct questions worked the best. It did make it hard on the kids. They had to work pretty hard to "get things past him". Hiding anything from Dad was almost impossible and getting his opinion was at best obscure.
Mechanical, he was not. If found with a screw driver or wrench someone had to go fix what he fixed. We had a truck with a loose screw in the window crank handle. It was a bit stripped. If it was tighten just right everything worked just fine. Due to our fine roads, we would have to tighten it once a month or so. Once Bob went out with a screw driver and "fixed the handle". The handle was back on but the window would not come down and the door would not open from the outside. After someone readjusted the screw a bit, everything worked again. Even when he was trucking, the kids and animals were important, we would receive instructions almost daily on what to do and when. For years we had lambs, we bought and sold them regularly. His favorite joke with the girls when they were teenagers in Billings was to invite the city slicker boyfriends to castrate. Just as they were getting used to castrating and not turning green at the gills, he would wave the nasty castrator under their nose and say something like "I hope you don't plan on any funny stuff with my daughter". Usually they would run off and not come back for a week or even longer. Those girls quit bringing their guys around when they heard we were "taking care of the buck lambs"! He loved the horses. But true to form, when he had to quit riding horses, Mr. D was retired to the pasture. He said that no one could ride him because he was a hand full and we weren't good enough riders yet. Every time we caught the horses and had extra riders, he would him and haw but come up with one excuse or another and Mr. D would not be ridden. However, one day no one asked. It took our bravest daughter to just saddle up and ride HIS horse. She made a surprising discovery; Mr. D was not wild at all, not even after not being ridden for a year. He was a very smo-o-oth rider. In fact, he was so smooth all the kids started riding Mr. D. He is an exceptional horse! All Bob did was show a sly grin. We were all snookered on this one! Bob was preceded in death by
his father King, and his mother Betty.
He is survived by his wife Linda Edwards, six children; Patrick, Debbie, Shanna, Snuffy, Johanna, and Shay, twelve grandchildren; Michael, LaDonna, Jordan, Patrick, Donna, Ashley, Tenea, Jonathon, Patrick, Saharae, Loren, Sylvia, and two great grandchildren Sheyenne & Alexis.
