Robert Fairbanks, age 89 of Miles City, Montana, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2006 at the Holy Rosary Hospital
Robert was born in Miles City, Montana on October 18, 1917, the son of George and Viola (Barton) Fairbanks. He was raised on the family homestead at Mizpah Creek. During World War II, he served with the 901st Army Engineers, in England and France. While stationed in England, Robert met and married the love of his life, Ellen Robinson on September 20, 1944. After he was honorably discharged, he and his Ellen raised their children in Miles City.
Robert worked for Max VanBuskirk at the Standard Oil Bulk Plant for many years. He then began working for R.D. Shipley at the Beacon Carter Service delivering gas and propane. He also installed and worked on propane heating systems. He was loyal to and appreciated by all of his customers. He had a real love of the outdoors, fishing and camping with his family. In his sons younger years, Robert enjoyed coaching his little league team with Ralph Luther. Robert was a very happy man with a real zest for life. A loving husband and father, he will be missed by all and forever in out hearts.
Robert is survived by his wife Ellen (Ann) of Miles City, MT, a daughter Susan Hobbs and her husband Richard and grandson Michael Hobbs all of Miles City, MT, and a son, John Fairbanks of Miles City, MT.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; June and Beth, a brother, Barton, and a grandson David Hobbs.
