Surrounded by friends and family, Robert “Bob” Hinnaland of Circle, Montana passed away peacefully at the McCone County Health Center after succumbing to his battle with leukemia. Bob was 77 years old.
Bob was born in Terry, Montana on June 14th, 1939 to Daniel and Gertrude Hinnaland. He was the second of seven children. Bob grew up on the family ranch near Coal Creek in western McCone County. Given the remoteness of the location, Bob’s brothers and sisters were his primary friends and playmates during those years until he began his schooling at the nearby country school. There he met many lifelong friends as the school was relocated from time to time to accommodate all of the school age children in the area. He attended high school in Circle, sometimes staying at the school dormitory, the Quick’s house, or the Meissner’s house so he could play football and attend all local (or not so local) events.
On January 16, 1961, Bob married Mary Alice Hart. Being as unprepared as all young couples are, they decided to start a family of their own. Their first son David was born on October 3rd, 1961, followed by their second son Wayne who was born on September 20th, 1965.
Bob worked very hard to support his new family. He spent one summer working road construction building Highway 24 from the Flowing Wells to Glasgow. Most of his time was spent farming and ranching with his parents. In 1962, Bob bought his first truck from a friend in Jordan. As the years went by, the workload continued, his sons grew into adults and Bob introduced them to the way of life in which he knew best: trucking, ranching, and farming.
Bob enjoyed going on fishing trips with his brother Todd, travelling to different rodeos in the region, and working with his family on the ranch and with the trucks. Bob was known by many people over a large area to have a contagious smile, a warm laugh and a heart full of love. Even after a 35 year battle with heart problems, Bob’s heart was still as full of love for his family and friends as it had ever been.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Jill Beecher and many good friends from school and work. Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years Mary Alice, along with his two sons: David (Ruth) Hinnaland, their family Cole (Kendra) Hinnaland with Kaelynn, Carmen (Alex) Schillinger, and Courtney Hinnaland; Wayne (Sheena) Hinnaland, their family Tandi (Brian) Kassner with Adisyn, Tripp, Kruiz and Aybrie, and Austin (Sunny) Haynie with Allden and Attley. He is also survived by his brothers Todd of Terry, MT and Jack of Brockway, MT; and his sisters Kay Wolff and Dana Wahl of Circle, MT and Mary Pederson of Glendive, MT.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24th, 2017 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Circle. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 25th, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Circle. Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Circle.
