Robert Lee Bob Howard, age 86, of Miles City passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Bob was born in Terry,Montana on December 29, 1921, the son of William Butler and Rose (Sheppard) Howard. Bob was nicknamed Fudge at an early age, named after an old cowboy Bob Fudge. He attended schools in Terry and country school at South Stacy. He worked on the family ranch until he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. While Bob was on leave from the service, he married Ingeborg Kelly on August 20, 1946 in MilesCity.
Following his honorable discharge he returned to Eastern Montana where he worked for area ranchers and worked construction in Malta and Rosebud. He then went to work for the U.S. Forest Service in 1953. In 1967, he moved into Miles City where he went to work for the City of Miles City until 1987 when at the age of 66, he retired. He and Ingeborg made Miles City their permanent home. Bob was an active member of the Eastern Montana Fiddlers, Range Riders, American Legion, the Masonic Lodge of Broadus, and the United Christian Church of Miles City.
Bob is survived by his wife, Ingeborg Howard of Miles City, MT; three sons: Jerald Howard of Glendive, MT; James Olaf Howard of Miles City, MT; and Ralph (Bev) Howard of Miles City, MT; two daughters: Rose Anna (Clarence) Moats of Mathias, WV; and Doris Lynn (Roy) Holloway of Reeseville, WI; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 1, 2008 with family receiving friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in MilesCity. Condolences may be sent to the family by visitingwww.stevnesonandsons.com.
