Funeral Services: will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City
Interment: will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Miles City with full Military Honors
Robert Irwin Morgan, age 83, of Miles City passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Robert was born in Miles City, Montana on March 2, 1921, the son of John Emmett and Mabel (Niebuhr) Morgan. He was raised outside of Miles City in the Pine Hills on the Powder River Breaks. He attended country schools in that area. He worked on the Frank Spears Ranch north of Miles City and then at CC Camps on the Baker Highway and in the Jordan area.Robert entered the United States Army Air Corps in July of 1941, serving during World War II where he was a Sergeant serving overseas. He was honorably discharged from the service in November of 1945. Following his discharge, he returned to Miles City where he began working for the state highway department. Robert married Bernice Jellison on June 7, 1947 in Miles City. He continued working for the state highway department for the next 37 years. Most of his career was spent at Boyes, Montana. After his retirement, they lived in Plevna where they lived until 1987, when they moved to Miles City where they have made their home since.Robert enjoyed coffee at the VFW every morning with his buddies, fishing & camping with the family. He especially enjoyed camping on the old homestead in the Pine Hills. Robert loved taking his boys hunting.
Robert is survived by his wife, Bernice Morgan of Miles City, MT; three sons: Robert A. Morgan of Broadus, MT; Wayne L. Morgan of Miles City, MT; and John E. Morgan and his wife Tina of Denver, CO; a daughter, Roberta K. Rickman and her husband Gary of Miles City, MT; three brothers: Bill Morgan of Puyallup, WA; Harold Morgan of Everrett, WA; and John Morgan of Walla Walla, WA; a sister, Lucille Handley of Miles City, MT; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren; a special caregiver, Janice Bennett that was like a daughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a twin brother Randall, and two sister Gertrude Sagen and Bessie Peters.
