Mass of Christian Burial:will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 15, 2004 at the Saint Matthews Catholic Church in Gillette, Wyoming with Father Bruce Clapham officiating.
Interment: will follow at the Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette, Wyoming.
Robert Wenande, age 80, of Oshoto, Wyoming, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004 in Mesa, Arizona of natural causes.
Robert Joseph Wenande was born November 4, 1923, the son of Gertrude (Johnson) and William J. Wenande in Alexandria, South Dakota. Bob grew up on the family ranch, attending eight years of rural school at Stroner, Wyoming. He graduated from Campbell County High School in Gillette, Wyoming in 1941. Upon graduation, he joined his parents in ranching. When his father died in 1961, he bought the ranch and added raising sheep to their cattle-raising industry. On June 21, 1951, he married Jean Marie Bonnie Rourke of Gillette, Wyoming at the Saint Matthews Catholic Church in Gillette. Three children were born to this union.Bob participated in rodeos as a bareback rider, calf roper, and team roper. Later, Bob gained local fame as a rodeo announcer. He loved working with children in the Little Levi rodeos. He was a member of the Horse Creek Roping club, putting on rodeos at the Horse Creek Arena at his ranch at Oshoto. They also put on the Crook County Fair Rodeo at Sundance for ten years.
Bob served on many boards during his lifetime. He was a county commissioner for Crook County for ten years, served on the school board, was a member of Trail Creek Grazing Association for thirty-eight years, served on the board of directors for Spring Creek Grazing Association, a Director for Powder River Energy for twenty-two years, a Basin Board Director for five years, Crook County Predator Board, Wyoming Wool Growers Association, Wyoming Stock Growers Association, and the Wyoming State Rural Electric Association. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Saint Matthews Catholic Church in Gillette, Wyoming and the Saint Mathews Catholic Church of Hulett, Wyoming. Bob enjoyed golfing, deep-sea fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He always enjoyed sharing a good joke and visiting with people. He will be greatly missed by all.
Bob is survived by his wife, Bonnie of fifty-two years of Oshoto, Wyoming; his children, Dianne Wenande McCartney and her husband Ron of Oshoto, Wyoming; Debbie Anderson and her husband Arlyn of Hulett, Wyoming; and Bill Wenande and his wife Marianne of Copenhagen, Denmark. He leaves behind six grandchildren, Sunny Roberts, Lacy Anderson, Lexi Anderson, Chris Wenande, Emily Wenande and Mikkel Hvidsteen. He had two great grandchildren, Magnus and Mille Hvidsteen. He also leaves behind a sister, Nell Moore of Lemmon, South Dakota; two nieces, Dee Kohn of Lemmon, South Dakota and Pat Ellis of Wasola, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial has been established in Bobs name to benefit the West Nile Research Foundation and the Guillan Barre Association.
