Robert Harold Ley went to be at peace with our lord on September 16, 2008 at 11:00 pm. He died at his home, after a fifteen year battle with cancer.
He was born November 2, 1926 to Alfred and Grace (Daley) Ley on the family farm south of Wibaux. He was the youngest of 4 children. He attended elementary school at the Ley and Lynn country schools. Upon entering high school in Wibaux, he gave up his education to take over at home when his father came down with Romanic Fever.
He married Genevieve Wicka on November 19, 1949 and had three wonderful children, Roberta, Sandra & Jeffrey. Later he married Donna Fiske Carpenter in 1961 and added four step sons to his family, Texas, Nicholes, Ronald & David Carpenter. In 1983 Bob married the love of his life, Dorthy who shared her three children with him, Debbie, Rick & Sandie. Bob worked on the family farm where he loved raising cattle, sheep, pigs and crops. In 1963 he went to work for the state highway department where he later became the state highway department section foreman. He retired from the state in 1988. Bob & Dorthy continued to farm and ranch until Bob felt he could no longer work that hard. In 1994 they sold the family farm to Bill & Darlene Begger. Upon doing this, they retired to Miles City, only to find retirement too boring. He took to driving beet truck during harvest & helped area farmers put up silage until he went to driving the Wibaux mail Route. He ran this route for several years. They spent their free time playing music with friends at jamborees. He finally had to give all of it up due to his illness.
Bob is preceeded in death by his parents Alfred & Grace, brothers Kenneth & Tom and just recently sister Leora, nephew Timothy, Grandson Wade Carpenter and stepdaughter Dixie Miller.
He is survived by his loving wife Dorthy (Cozzens), his children Roberta (Duane) Maus of Golva ND, Sandra (Tom) Nelson of Dickinson ND, Jeffrey (special friend Sheryl Baumbun) of Rapid City SD, Tex (Sherry) Carpenter of Ryegate MT, Nichalis Carpenter of Bridger, Ronald (Judith) Carpenter of Billings, David (Diane) Carpenter of Cheyenne WY, Debbie (Bobbie) Weyer of Wibaux, Rick (Kara) Miller of Atlanta GA, Sandie (Brad) Green of Shepherd MT and numerous grand children, great grand children, nieces & nephews.
