Funeral services: will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the Powder River Congregational Church in Broadus Montana.
Burial: will follow at the Valley View Cemetery.
Robert Rumph, 84, of Biddle, Montana passed away from this life at the Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colorado on Wednesday, August 20, 2008.
Robert was born on June 25, 1924 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Clark and Gertrude (Schaap) Rumph. His family moved to Montana when he was 3 weeks old. He attended grade school in Butte Creek and graduated from Powder River County High School. He attended Montana State University where he played the trumpet in the marching band. Robert was also known for his wonderful singing. After attending college in Bozeman Montana he moved home to the family ranch and lived with his brother Roland (Roly).He married the love of his life, Catherine Russell, on December 16, 1950 in Gillette Wyoming and they made their home on a ranch near Biddle Montana. They raised three daughters and a granddaughter on the ranch.
Robert enjoyed feeding the deer in the winter, riding around in his pickup truck and showing people his ranch, taking care of his wonderful buffalo herd and sharing his love of life with those he met along the way. Every morning he looked forward to visiting with his brother Roly on the phone. He loved to meet new people from all walks of life. He was loved and respected by so many in the community. Robert had a deep faith in Christ and contributed to building the Wesleyan Church in Biddle of which he was a member.There were three special people who took care of Robert in his later years, they are: Jeannie and Jim Beaman, and Bridget Hemmer. His life was a little easier with these wonderful people to care for him.
Robert is survived by his three daughters: Glenda (Lonnie) Hibbs, Debra (Jim) Hayes, Robin (John Roberts) Rumph; his only grandchild Autumn (Hans) Gruner; two brothers: Roland (Erma) Rumph and Roger Rumph; two sisters: Virginia (Bob) Robinson and Vern (Harry) Barthuly. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and step grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers; Richard and Raymond.
Visitation will be from 1 pm to 6 pm on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus, MT. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the Powder River Congregational Church in Broadus Montana. Burial will follow at the Valley View Cemetery.
