Robert G. Scheibel, age 89, of Miles City, Montana, passed away peacefully at the Friendship Villa with his loving wife and children by his side.
Robert “Bob” was born August 28, 1930 in Knowlton, MT, he was the 6th of 8 children born to Arthur and Louise Scheibel. Bob and family lived and attended school at Knowlton until Bob was 10 years old. They had the opportunity sell the family homestead at Knowlton for $1 and relocated to Kinsey, MT and become Irrigated farmers. There is where Bob, his Dad and Brother Ernie lived in a one pig house while the WPA under President Roosevelt built their house for the rest of the family to join them. Today the house still stands at the end of the project!
Bob graduated from High School in 1948 and went to work for Ted Hirsch farming until the time when he was drafted into the Army. He was a tank mechanic in Korea during the War. Bob was honorably discharged and returned to Miles City where he and Rosemary Pearson were married in 1954. After working for various ranches in Wyoming and Montana they settled back in Miles City where Bob went to work for the VA Hospital in dietetics and in the evenings at the Peavey Elevator. In 1958 they started their family by welcoming their first daughter Debra, followed by Cynthia in 1960 and son Robert “Roben” in 1964. During his 30 years of service at the VA Hospital he was called out by the Governor of the State of Montana to cook at Warm Springs for 6 weeks while they were on strike. During those 30 years he was also a member of the National Guard where he spent one weekend every month cooking and two weeks every summer cooking at Guard Camp.
After his full retirement Bob enjoyed gardening, league bowling, hunting and fishing trips with friends, traveling North America with his wife and lots of trips made with his sister and Brother-in-law Margaret and Bruce Gentry. Bob was President of the Montana Moose Association for 1 year, Secretary for many years of the Local Lodge and Lifetime Member of the Moose Lodge where we believe that at the time of his death, he was the oldest pilgrim still alive in Montana.
In 1997 Bob learned of a daughter that he never knew he had. Deanna Goforth was welcomed into the Scheibel family with open arms. Bob and Rosemary spent many years trying to make up the last 40 years Bob missed by traveling to Lolo, Montana to visit and take part in the life that Deanna and her husband Donnie had established.
“Papa” also enjoyed many hours spent with his Grandkids and Great Grandkids. They all loved him very very much and he will be greatly missed by each one of them.
Bob is survived by his wife Rosemary; Four Children: Deb Bartholomew of Miles City, MT, Cindy (Rod) Hessler and Roben Scheibel of Billings, MT and Deanna (Donnie) Goforth of Lolo, MT; six Grand Children & twelve Great Grand Children: Nicole (Mike) Wacker—Cody, Miles, Carly, Karina, Fredrick; BreeAnn (William) Nelson—Kash; Robbie Scheibel; Mason (Amanda) Scheibel—Eli, Scarlet; Travis Goforth—Taylor, Dylan; Mike (Rochelle) Goforth—Cheyenne, Wyatt. Bob is also survived by his sister Hilda Souza and many nieces and nephews. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, six siblings and son-in-law Miles Bartholomew.
A special thank you goes out to the Nurses, Caregivers and Staff at the Friendship Villa for the kindness and care they gave our Dad over the past 2 years.

Rosemary, Just read the obituary to my mother, Eva Mader. Your husband worked for Mom and Dad on the Montana/Wyo border. Mom says she really enjoyed Robert and they used to race at picking chickens, which Mom butchered a few every morning. We still have the Wilber place and a brother runs it. Mom says hello and will keep you in her prayers.

Cindy and family, As I read your dad’s obituary, I am reminded of what a great generation we are losing and have lost. Pretty amazing people who forged such good lives through hardships. I will always remember staying with your family during Bucking Horse sale and how they welcomed me. Ted Hirsch used to buy bulls from my folks before i even knew you and I would go with Dad to their place. What a small world. Just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you all today. God Bless!!
