Robert Thomas Regan, surrounded by family, died quietly on Saturday, November 11, 2006, in Billings, Montana, where he resided for the last two years.
Bob was born on September 5, 1915, to the late J. F. (James F.) and Mary (Nugent) Regan, and raised and educated in Miles City, MT. He received a scholarship from Northwestern University but, during the depression, returned to Miles City to help his father and brothers with the family business.
Bob was deferred from military duty because the critical skills he possessed were required in the construction of military bases throughout the Western US. He and Mary spent the next several years traveling to that end. Bob never formally retired rather, he enjoyed a long standing association with Regan Plumbing and Heating, a family business started by his father, J. F. Regan.
Mary B. Regan was the love of his life and, following a long-distance courtship, they joined together in marriage on June 15, 1940 in Minneapolis, MN. They shared 64 years together in Miles City where they raised six sons, giving them roots to grow and wings to fly. A large community of friends was created along the way. Bob was a humble man but his pride in and love for his wife and family had no bounds.
Bob was an avid golfer in his day, having played numerous courses throughout the West with Mary and his golfing buddies. He was known to enjoy a Scotch and water. Bob was a life-long member and supporter of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City and other charities.
Bob is survived by his sons, Robert, Jr. (Mary) of Nashville, TN; Joseph (Barb) of Miles City, MT; Michael (Melissa) of Eureka, CA; John of Livingston, MT; Pat (Cathy) of Cle Elum, WA; and Dan of Helena, MT; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved Mary; parents (J. F. and Mary); three older brothers, James (Elva), John and Ed (Peggy).
Bob will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and attentive grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved children and his eyes sparkled this past Halloween when passing out candy to the local children who visited his nursing home that evening. He was a wise elder with a warm smile and dry sense of humor. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 with a Vigil Service at 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City.
