Rodger (Roddy) Reuther passed away after bravely battling many health issues

He was born in Terry MT to Magdalena (Strobel) and Herbert Reuther. He lived his childhood on the Fallon Flat. He attended grades 1-5 in Marsh, 6-8 in Fallon, and 9-12 at Terry High School.

During his childhood he contracted polio and thanks to his mother, who took great care of him, he did not have any noticeable side effects.

He married Bev Rein on August 6th, 1965 at the Congregational Church in Fallon. They made their home on the CB Route unit the late fall of 1966, when they moved to the Fallon Flat after the death of his dad. At that time, they took over the operation of the family farm. He took great pride in making every branding in the Cabin Creek area until moving to Terry. Bev and Roddy worked side-by-side for 20 years’ operating the farm and ranch. While also living on the farm he was an active 4-H leader. During that time, they had two daughters: Suzanne in 1966 and Deidra in 1968. In 1986, Bev and Roddy moved to Terry and he started his career at Farmers Union Oil working in agronomy and eventually moving to the bulk delivery fuel driver. After having to retire early due to a back injury and back surgery, he started mowing lawns for many Terry residents, the church, and Bad Route rest area. Other jobs after retiring included helping Stevenson’s and Sons Funeral Home with visitations, cleaning the courthouse and the church with Bev. Roddy worked during beet harvest running the piler and helped drive sileage truck for the Tibbetts family during corn chopping.

His favorite job after retiring was operating the mosquito truck for the Town of Terry; he took great pride in that job. Roddy was active in the Terry Presbyterian Church.

Some of his favorite activities were bowling, getting together with the class of 1963, feeding his beloved dogs, and making sure his lawn was manicured properly. Roddy also enjoyed camping and fishing at Boulder River, Fort Peck, Holter Lake, Yellowstone River, and Shadehill. Strobel family reunions were a huge highlight of his life. Before his health declined, he loved to decorate his yard for Christmas.

Roddy had a one and only grandchild, Samantha Reuther who was the apple of his eye. He enjoyed teasing her and making her cry. He enjoyed coming to all of her sporting events and activities that she participated in throughout her high school years. He texted her every morning “Good morning sunshine. What are you doing today?” Sam and her grandpa had an agreement that if she got all A’s she would get $50. All he wanted was to see her finish college. He was granted his final wish since she finished college a week before his passing.

Roddy also had a great relationship with his nephew Pete Rein. Both enjoyed teasing the other! Roddy enjoyed when Pete and Doug would take him hunting and fishing. Two weeks before he passed away, Roddy enjoyed one last fishing trip with Doug.

Roddy is survived by his daughters Suzie Reuther, Diedra (David) Johnson; granddaughter Samantha (Sam) Reuther; sister Donna (Glenn) Kuehn; niece Tara Kuehn (Patrick) Risner; cousin Gary Lierman; many Strobel cousins; sister-in-law Marilyn (Elmer) Frank; and brother-in-law Doug (Caryn) Rein.  Roddy was preceded in death by the love of his life Bev Reuther and his parents.

If it wasn’t for bad luck Roddy would have no luck at all! And he never complained!

Bev and Roddy were such wonderful people and we feel blessed to have called them friends. My heart aches for your family and the loss you have endured this year.

I enjoyed being around Roddy. Loved to visit and ride horse. I helped work his fields when he had the accident with the tractor. Enjoyed hunting with Roddy, my Dad, and Uncle Doug. I woke up early one morning, looking south across the river, you couls see flames from a fire. Then Dad got a call, that it was Roddy and Bev’s Barn burning. I even was lucky to help pour concrete floor in his Quonset. We enjoyed Christmas at their house on the Flats. They had a very good hill to tobbogan off of. I got in on the adventure of helpping Roddy move Suzie to Hettinger. That was my first trip cross country to Plevna. I enjoyed many family gatherings. I am saddened I cannot cross the border, to be there. I am thankful Lezlie and I stopped by the park in Terry, on our way back to Alberta. Rest in Peace Uncle Roddy.

How do you put 65 years of friendship in one short paragraph? Roddy and Bev were such good friends. We didn’t get to see each other very often anymore, but I have such good memories! They were the best of friends, kind, generous and so much fun! It will be hard to drive East and not be able to stop and visit. My greatest consolation is that they have no more pain or oxygen tanks. I firmly believe that they are happy to be together again. I will certainly miss them. It’s comforting to know we will meet again someday.

I first knew Roddy in 4H and liked their loom. He also helped us brand, on the way back to pasture horses, he wanted to race. I told him my mare he was on loved to race and would probably would outrun my horse. When we strted Roddy had several lengs head start, with a little urging mine passed later in the race. Years later he delivered ammonia where I was working in a field.
I did enjoy seeing them at their home a few times. Rest in peace Roddy and Bev.

I was so saddened to hear of Roddy’s passing, but not too surprised. Roddy and Bev were such a wonderful couple, it was hard to think of one without the other. My family got to see them usually about once a year. After my husband was gone, I saw them as often as I could get to Terry. There is going to be a big empty space at our next high school reunion. Thank heavens for pictures and memories. I like to think they are young and together again.
