Rodney Kirk Hedges, age 62, of Miles City passed away at home on Thursday, May 18, 2017.
Kirk was born in Miles City on July 29, 1954 to Roy A. “Buck” and Margaret Lee (Ellison) Hedges.
Kirk attended and graduated from Custer County District High School and worked several jobs until he got hired permanently with the State of Montana Highway Department, Miles City Division. He retired from there with 31 years, 8 months service. He had his retirement plaque proudly displayed in his home.
Kirk was always known in the Hedges family for his passion for all things to do with World War II. He had several authentic model ships he had assembled and customized over the years. Kirk was an artist and up until around age 16 did some charcoal drawings of old crumbling barns and landscapes that hung in the family home until Kirk’s dad passed away in 2009. Kirk and his sister Penny took a vacation to Hawaii several years ago and Kirk was like a kid in the candy store during the day spent at Pearl Harbor touring the Arizona Memorial and the USS Missouri that survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Kirk was a member of the Elks and loved riding his 4 wheeler to work and around town, when he wasn’t cruising around in his yellow Mustang.
Kirk is survived by his four siblings: Roy Patrick (Susan) Hedges of Miles City; Melissa Carol Hedges of Billings; Penny Rene Hedges of Billings; Audrey Lee (Rob) Pengelly. Also survived by stepmother, Dorothy Hedges and nieces: Kathleen Hedges (Darby) Vosler; Angie (Russell) Benjamin and nephews: Keith (Andie) Hedges; Jens (Marcy) Hedges; Robbie Scheibel; Mason (Amanda) Scheibel. Kirk also had many aunts and uncles and cousins that he enjoyed family picnics and Thanksgiving gatherings with each year and a lifelong high school friend, Jeff Virag.
Should friends desire, donations to a favorite charity are suggested.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Custer County Cemetery. Condolences to the family may be sent by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com.

I worked with Kirk at the Montana Dept of Transportation. He was always a kind hearted man with a willingness to help anybody in need. I didn’t know anyone who didn’t like Kirk. Even after he retired, he would stop to visit and tell us the same stories he had told us all 20 times before. I think he loved it when new guys were hired so he could tell all his stories again to someone new. We’ll all miss Kirk and are thankful for the chance to know him.

I first met Kirk as a childhood friend, when the neighborhood kids welcomed the family to the block by throwing rocks at them. Following that altercation we all became close friends. After moving away I was always happy to see any of them! Kirk and I used to walk to school together, and we graduated in 1972! He was always a little guy with a great heart, and will be missed by all! RIP Kirk. Hugs and prayers for his family!
