Rosalie M. Landa, age 91 of Broadus, passed away on July 20, 2014 at the Powder River Manor in Broadus, MT.
Rosalie was born on May 30, 1923 in a log cabin on the family ranch located in the Bear Lodge area of Crook County, Wyoming. Her parents were Barney and Rosa Giachino who had immigrated from northern Italy. Rosalie was the youngest of five children. She walked to the Lame Jones country school for her eight years of education. She married Joe Landa on July 6, 1942 in Miles City, Montana. Joe had come to America and herded sheep in the Buffalo, Wyoming area and acquired a herd of sheep after 10 years. The newlyweds bought the Jim Catti ranch on Horse Creek in the Boyes, Montana area. Joe had it leased before they were married. Two sons were born. Jerry in 1944 and Mike in 1948. They bought the Pete Pasco ranch and built a house near Duncan Creek school and moved from Horse Creek in the early 50`s. They had sold the sheep in the middle 1940`s because of coyotes and bought cattle. Joe and Rosalie ranched for 48 years at Boyes and moved to Broadus, Montana in 1990. They enjoyed the country dances at Boyes and Hammond and a visit to the neighbors a couple times a year.
Rosalie did not have time for hobbies. She kept a very clean house. In later years she did collect old bottles, dishes and various antiques. Joe built her a “bottle shack” to put her treasures in. She loved to have her grandchildren (JJ, Bob and Crissy) over for cookies and ice cream. Later she had four great granddaughters to enjoy.
Rosalie is survived by son Jerry(Sylvia) Landa Boyes, Mt; grandsons John Joseph (Cathy) Boyes, Mt; Bob Landa Seattle, WA; granddaughter Cris (John) Powell Milwaukee, WI; great granddaughters Alivia Landa, Ava Landa Boyes, Mt; Elly Powell; Bronwyn Powell, Milwaukee, WI; daughter in laws Vida Landa, Miles City, Mt; Phyllis Landa, Helena, Mt and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosalie was preceded in death by her siblings; husband Joe Landa and son Mike Landa.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 11:00 p.m. at the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus, MT. Interment will be held in the Valley View Cemetery.
