Rose Marie LaFranier (Ameo’o, Sacred Road Woman) was born on January 13, 1950, to Helen Kinzel Hiwalker and George Hiwalker Sr. in Crow Agency, MT.
Rose spent her childhood years with her Grandparents Belle and Floyd Highwalking. Some of her fondest memories were with her close relatives, that she took as brothers and sisters, at the Hiwalker Ranches on the Lame Deer and Rosebud Creeks.
Rose attended Colstrip Schools and graduated from St. Labre Catholic School, where she was a Baton Twirler. After high school she met Roy LaFranier and they were married at Sheridan, WY on June 28, 1968. From this marriage, they had 5 children: Cleve, Fonz, Leslie, Marti, and Misty. She worked for the Follow Through Program as a secretary for the Lame Deer School. Most of Rose’s years were spent raising her children before going back to work as a Prep Cook at the Charging Horse Casino.
She enjoyed reading her Louis Lamour books, gardening, and taking drives to the old place. During these drives, she would tell many stories of people, places, and events she remembers while growing up. She loved her Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and spending time with family. Rose was known to all her grandchildren as “Beema” and she loved and cherished each and every one of them.
Rose is preceded in death by her parents, George & Helen Hiwalker, Brothers; Cleveland, George Jr., Weaver D., Hank; Sister, Pat Hiwalker Hossner. Her nephews, Michael Hiwalker, George III Hiwalker, Chris Sr., Shawn Del Lafranier, and Weaver Beartusk. Her special sister, Laura Lonebear. Her husband, Roy LaFranier and her grandchildren Tye and Alexa LaFranier.
She is survived by her children, Cleve, Fonz (Chas), Leslie (Robert), Marti and Misty. Sister, Virginia Ferris; Brother, Floyd Hiwalker.
Her grandchildren: Shanda, Courtney, Amaya, Mariah, Ateah, Kingston, Paris, Lena, Malia, Trent, Angel, Christian, Oneisha Ona Belle, Mahayol, Mahkysha, Lanee, Taylyn, and an unborn grandson that is due to be born next month.
And 10 Great grandchildren; Bryson, Tishaun, O’shaun, Shantelle, Tammy Jo, Rajaun, Drejaun, Tayzha, Audianna, and an unborn baby due this year.
Extended Families Include: Lonebear, Wolfvoice, Teeth, LaRance, Mcmanus, Rapos, Ant, Harris, Kinzel, Scalpcane, Ferris. Please forgive us if we missed anyone, as our family is large.
Mom had specific wishes for this day, so in her honor, we will have her services the way that she wanted.

My mind goes back to the early 60’s, when Rose and her sister Pat accompanied their mom Helen at the church gathering next to the Lame Deer grade school. Helen was the Sunday school teacher, and she had a patience for teaching young minds and answering their questions. Sorry to hear the news about Rose. Prayers for her loved ones.

Cleve, Fonz, Misty, Leslie and Marty,
My sympathy and love to all of you. I feel like I have lost one of my last contacts with the Cheyenne Reservation, and that hurts. We would often talk on the phone for an hour or more. I will miss those talks. My prayers are for her and with all of you. Fr. Larry Abler, Capuchin
