Roy A. Buck Hedges, age 84, of Miles City passed away on Monday, September 21, 2009 at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Roy was born in Forsyth, Montana on August 28, 1925, the son of Edward and Lucille (McCool) Hedges. He attended country school at Ingomar. Following his schooling, he entered the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and also served in Japan. Upon his honorable discharge, he moved to Forsyth, Montana where he worked at available local jobs. Buck worked for Lou Richardson Construction, traveling to various locations. He did many tasks with Richardsons but primarily he operated the rock crusher for the operation. In 1957, when family size began to increase, he moved to Miles City, beginning employment as a mechanic with the city of Miles City and retired as shop foreman in 1988. He married Margaret Lee Ellison at Forsyth, Montana. He later married Dorothy Riggs on November 14, 1998 at Miles City, Montana.
Roy loved gardening, woodworking, photography, and fixing anything. He was a member of the Elks and the American Legion.
Roy is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hedges of Miles City, MT; two sons: Roy Patrick (Susan) Hedges of Miles City, MT; and Rodney Kirk Hedges of Miles City, MT; three daughters: Melissa Carol Hedges of Billings, MT; Penny Rene Hedges of Billings, MT; and Audrey Lee (Rob) Pengelly of Billings, MT; three step sons: Steven (Kathy) Riggs of Billings, MT; Brian (Heather) Riggs of Miles City, MT; and Kenneth (Bonnie) Riggs of Miles City, MT; two brothers: Bill Hedges of Hysham, MT; and Rocky Hedges of Aberdeen, SD; two sisters: Viola Zeimet of Melstone, MT; and Sandy Kanta of Melstone, MT; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2009 with family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579.
