Ruby Alice (Kercheval) Olson, age 81, of Broadus passed away August 21, 2016 at the Powder River Manor in Broadus.
Ruby was born on September 24, 1934 to Ulysess Grant and Alice Mae (Sessions) Kercheval at their home on the Little Bear Skull Creek. She attended grade school at the Rocky Butte School; and high school in Buffalo, Wyoming where she lived with her sister’s family after her parent’s deaths. She moved home to the Kercheval Ranch after graduation in 1954.
Ruby married John Eugene Olson on August 20, 1956. As a team, they worked hard and saved up to buy out both their family’s ranches. With eight children, the years were lean, but their home was filled with love and laughter. John passed away in 1981, but in true pioneering fashion, Ruby carried on with the help of family, friends and neighbors. She still had children to raise and livestock to care for, and she wasn’t one to give up easily. She loved her animals, ranching, gardening and flowers. She will be missed for her loving, kind heart and her sense of humor, along with her soft spoken voice.
Ruby leaves behind her children: Grant (Mary) Olson of Broadus; Eddie (Sherry) Olson of Murphy, Idaho; Twila (Lannie) DeVries of Hawarden, Iowa; Tracy Sandine of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; Tena Olson of Broadus, Leon (Christy) Olson of Spring Creek, Nevada; and Linda (Johnny) Quiroz of Broadus; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents in 1945 and 1949, husband John in 1981, son Jimmy Lee Olson in 1991, four sisters and a twin brother -Madeline, Nellie, Florence, Bessie, and Robert.
