Ruby Schiffer was born January 27, 1929 to Peter J. and Alice J. (Ferris) Smith in Forsyth, Montana. Ruby passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Saint David, Arizona on April 22, 2018.
Ruby went to a one-room school house during grade school and then boarded and worked waitress jobs while attending high school in Forsyth, Montana. She graduated from Forsyth High School in 1947.
She married Arthur Schiffer on June 15, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Forsyth. Together they had four children: Julia, Karen, Michael, and Joseph. Ruby also was a mother to several of her grandchildren. Ruby’s door was always open to anyone who needed food or a place to stay.
Ruby loved gardening, yard work, beautiful flowers, bowling, golfing, the Rosebud Sidesaddle Club, 4H leader, cooking for crews and cooking for family, and running for parts. Ruby loved playing pinochle. She was especially dedicated and loving of her family and the ranch life until the very end.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Alice Smith, her husband Arthur Schiffer, her sister Mary Lambeth, her brother Pete Smith and her son in law Roland Mayberry.
She is survived by her daughters Julia (Jack) Ferguson, Karen Mayberry, her sons Michael (Teresa) Schiffer, and Joseph (Dusty Jo) Schiffer. Ruby is survived by her sister Ada Downer and brother Joseph Smith. She is survived by 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 25 great great grandchildren. She will be missed and remembered by all.
Ruby’s family will receive friends at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home, 245 Westwind Lane in Forsyth from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018. Funeral services will be held at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Forsyth Cemetery. Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth is assisting the family with arrangements.
