Russell James “Jim” Fisher, age 86, Miles City formerly of Poplar passed away May 30, 2016.
Jim was born the oldest son to Russell and Myrtle Clifford Fisher on August 27, 1929. He grew up south of the river near Brockton. He attended Armstrong, Culbertson and Brockton schools. He served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1957. Jim married Monty LeVay in 1957 in Poplar and to this union they had three children Ed, Bobby and Julie. During his years he worked many jobs, but his true passion was farming and ranching. He loved his animals and to watch his crops grow. He was always available to lend a helping hand whenever needed.
Jim had many close friends to share a laugh with, trade stories, play cards or visit with. He loved to watch any type of rodeo live or on TV, with great enjoyment attending the NFR with the Reede’s, Kirn’s and crew.
Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Monty, children Ed (Lynette), Bobby and Julie; grandchildren: Jake, Michael, and Shelby; three great-grandchildren; and he is survived by one brother Larry. We were blessed to have him in our lives.

Dear Monty & family,
I am so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. He was one of my favorite patients. I always enjoyed visiting with him. He always made me smile when he wanted an update on Hadli & her barrel racing. I wish he could have seen her compete. May good memories comfort you in the days ahead. Rest on peace my friend. Thoughts, prayers & hugs to everyone.

Gary and I were so sad to hear of Jims passing. Been a few years ago that my parents worked for Jim and Monte but we got to know them quite well and so enjoyed them. Only family would understand the back and forth banter between Jim and I. I think I was up one on him!
Monte we send you our Love and a big hug. We will forever remember your Lemon Pie!
Ed and family, Bobby, and Julie we send our love to you.
We are unable to make it to Jims service. Peace to all….

We knew Jim just a short time. He and Monte sat behind us in Church and always had a friendly smile. We found out that he knew lots of people that we knew from NE Montana. He will be missed. Our condolences and prayers for Monte and all the family.
Mary Lee (Frerich) Smith says
I have fond memories of the Fisher family from our Poplar years. Eternal peace grant to Jim, oh Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon him. Give comfort to his grieving family.
Carroll & Darla Ferestad says
We have great memories of Jim and family from the years of high school rodeo era. Bobby and our son Mike were good friends. Used to love running into Jim and Monte in Wal-Mart’s at Williston. Our deepest sympathy and prayers for Monte and family.
