Russell J. Martin, age 58, of Miles City, Montana, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2006 at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Mr. Martin was born on February 22, 1948 in Billings, Montana the son of Sam and Emma (Skalka) Martin. He was raised and attended schools in Billings, graduating from Billings Senior High School in 1966. On December 9, 1966, he and Deborah Ann Blasing were married in Billings. To this union was born a daughter, Barbara and a son, Robert. He joined the United States Navy and served for six years, he was based in San Diego and served a tour in Vietnam as a telecommunications expert, from May 19, 1967 to January 12, 1973. He was awarded the Bronze Star. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed by San Diego Mountain Bell, and the following year he transferred to Miles City, Montana. He worked for Mountain Bell, now known as Qwest Communications, for 33 years. He was faithful and proud of his work with Qwest. He and his wife were divorced in 1976.
Mr. Martin belonged to a bowling league, a dart league, and the Miles City Chapter AA. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a great father and grandfather and was a special friend to all who knew him.
Survivors include his two children: Barbara Highsmith of Sidney, MT and Robert Martin of Miles City, MT; sisters: Emma L. Martin of Billings, MT, Margaret Martin of Lake Elsinore, CA, and Meridith Wethington of Phoenix, AZ; a brother, Samuel Martin of Canon City, CO; his grandchildren: Nicole Martin and Taylor Highsmith of Sidney, MT; Cora Highsmith of Washington; RosieHighsmith of Sidney, MT; ChristinaHighsmith of South West City, MO; and MatthewHighsmith of Glendive, MT; three great grandchildren; a niece, Samantha Wethington of Phoenix, AZ; a nephew, Tom Martin of Helena, MT; two great nephews and one great niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Grandpa. Tonight I tried actually facing the truth. Your not physically here and havnt been for some time. U taught me so much! And mom u sure did keep her up right! Thanks for all u did, starting from your time on the service, to mom and Bob, to teaching tay and I to earn life.

I miss my Dad. I was out of state and town so much with work. Quit my job in Alaska to be closer when his health issues came up. Was still not close enough. Missed a lot of things with family because of work. Regret going to Alaska to work.

I am glad he raised me right. wish I could turn back the hands of time. Would have changed my career. But you make your choices and you live with them. Thank you for all the support Dad.
