Russell Kreider, age 92, of Jordan.

Russell Kreider, age 92, of Jordan passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Garfield County Nursing Home in Jordan.

Russell was born February 22, 1923 in Sumatra, Montana to Henry and Gladys Kreider. He attended Sand Springs grade school and graduated from Garfield County High School in 1941. He worked at various jobs before joining the arm during WWII and was stationed in the Philippines. After he was discharged, he returned to Sand Springs and helped out at the family ranch. He later joined a water engineers company with the Army and was sent to Korea. He was stationed at Pusan during some of the military battles there. After the war he purchased a semi-truck and worked out of Great Falls for several years. He spent 6 years or longer in California before going to Alaska. There he got interested in Placer gold mining. He joined an organization going to Nome, Alaska for a few years. He returned to Sand Springs in the mid 80’s.

After his house burned down in 2005 he lived with his sister Daisy Dutton of Sand Springs. In February 2011, he entered the nursing home in Jordan on account of health problems. Russell was one of a family of nine. His brothers included Henry, Ralph, Dennis, all deceased and youngest brother Dale, living in Sand Springs; four sisters, Barbara who is deceased, Faith Holler of Cody, WY, Norma Kreider of Fromberg, MT and Daisy Dutton of Sand Springs; many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Jordan from 11:00 a.m.-12:20 p.m. followed by a service at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Eastern Montana State Veteran’s Cemetery in Miles City with full military honors provided by VFW Post 1579.
