Ruth Garrick, age 94, of Plentywood, MT and most recently of Wolf Point, MT passed away Saturday, August 11, 2007 at the Billings Clinic, in Billings, MT.
Ruth was born on May 3, 1913 at Redstone, Montana, the daughter of Ole and Ingeborg (Medalen) Johnson. She attended school in Redstone and Plentywood, and was a member of the Plentywood Lutheran Church.
Ruth attended Business College in Minot, North Dakota, where she worked part-time as a doctors receptionist. She also worked as a waitress at the City Cafe in Plentywood and at Kramers Cafe in Flaxville, Montana, and was a clerk at Plentywoods Red Owl Store. For several years she worked as a sales lady and cashier for the J.C. Penney Company in Plentywood.
She was married to Floyd Garrick in 1948. They made their home in Plentywood for many years. This union was blessed with one daughter, Joan Watson. Both Ruth and Joan were supervisors for a time at the Pioneer Manor for Arne Rasmussen and Harold DeSilva. After retiring, Ruth and her family moved to Billings, Montana, and they enjoyed traveling together until Floyds health declined, prompting them to return to Plentywood. Floyd passed away on October 31, 1990.
After Floyds death, Ruth continued to live in Plentywood and later Wolf Point where she helped take care of her grandson, Justin, while her daughter, Joan, continued to teach in the Wolf Point schools.
Ruth loved her family. She was a wonderful, devoted, and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was her familys best friend, always listening, comforting and helping. She could always be counted on for her words of wisdom and loving support whenever difficulties arose. We were truly blessed to have had her in our lives, and we will miss her very much.
She enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards, and having coffee with relatives and friends. Ruth was a very good cook and always had a warm, welcoming smile whenever company came to visit.
Ruth Garrick is survived by her daughter, Joan and her husband, Byron Watson of Wolf Point; her grandson, Justin Ryan Watson of Wolf Point; her sister, Ollie Johnson of Wolf Point, MT; a sister-in-law, Helen Johnson of Plentywood, MT; a niece, Leona (Lowell) Snyder of Plentywood, MT; a nephew, Arno (Joyce) Johnson of Yakima, WA; as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an infant sister. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Johnson and Gerhard Johnson, as well as a sister-in-law, Luella Johnson.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Wolf Point with Rev.
