Ruth OBrien, age 82, formerly of Miles City passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Ruth was born in Edmonton, Canada on April 5, 1923, the daughter of Paul and Bernice (Draper) Carlson. Shortly after she was born, the family moved to Miles City where she attended schools. She worked at the 600 Cafe as a waitress and also at the Olive Hotel as a housekeeper and at the Milligan Hotel. Ruth married Don Coles in 1941 in Miles City. To this union, four sons were born: Phillip, Ronnie, Clayton & Marlin. She later married Elmer Burkett in 1950 to this union two children were born: Floyd and Deborah. She then married Edmond Blunt in 1954 and to this union two children were born: Cathy and Teresa. Ruth married Jim OBrien in 1958 and to this union a son, Gene was born. She moved to Billings in 1963. Ruth was a homemaker and mother, staying at home to raise her children. She moved to Laurel in 1975 where she lived until 2002. She then moved to Clarksville, Tennessee then to Nebraska where she lived for six months before returning to Miles City in August of 2005. Ruth enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting, sewing, dancing, and always made sure her children were in church. She also loved playing cards. She was a very giving and caring person. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by five sons: Phillip Coles and his wife Young of Lindsey, OK; Ronnie Coles and his wife Darlene of Lindsey, OK; Clayton Coles and his wife Betty of Bakersfield, CA; Marlin Coles and his wife Vivian of Marquette, NE; and Floyd Burkett of Red Lodge, MT; three daughters: Deborah McCord and her husband Mitchell of Clarksville, TN; CathyJolliff and her husband Dennis of Lewistown, MT; and Teresa Claremboux and her husband Gary of Billings, MT; a sister, Barb Hammond of Billings, MT; twenty one grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim OBrien; a infant son Gene, a brother Vernon Carlson, and two sisters: Helen Muri and Margaret Ann.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 19, 2005 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.
