Ruth “Rootie” Patricia Roos, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by the family, Monday, May 4, 2015, at Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, Montana, after complications from pneumonia.
Ruth was born in Miles City, Montana on February 21, 1929 to John & Frances Doran. She was the second of four children born to the couple.
One day, Ruth was set up on a date with a man named Raymond Roos. Well Ray knew a good one when he saw it, and they married September 16, 1963. To this union, three children were born, Patrick, Julie, and Carol.
Before marriage, Ruth enjoyed working at the Woolworth’s lunch counter. But Ray insisted she stay home to focus on her children once they were married. She was a loving mother and devoted wife, always putting her family’s needs before her own. Later, she was caregiver to her two granddaughters, while their mother, Carol, worked…a profession that brought total joy to her life and earned her title of “professional grandmother.”
Ruth was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and had a permanent pew in front the last couple years of her life. She enjoyed watching the congregation going up to Communion and loved when they took the time to shake her hand as they were passing by.
Ruth enjoyed many hobbies and activities. Before her arthritis got the best of her, she enjoyed embroidery, even teaching her two granddaughters the art. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble, Pinochle and Whist with family and friends. As a woman that did not like dogs in her younger years, took a total liking to her Grand dog, Tessa.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond in December 2001, her parents, John and Frances, and half-sister, Evelyn.
She is survived by her three children, Patrick, Julie, and Carol (J.R.) and her two precious granddaughters, Ashley and Brianna. She is also survived by her brother, Jack Doran, her sisters, Dorothy Doran and Ann Bird, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family is very thankful for the nurses, doctors and aides of Holy Rosary, Billings Clinic, and Home Care who made her last few years a blessing. We are also especially thankful to her daughter, Julie, who was her caregiver allowing her to live at home until her death. Thanks also go to Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home and Fr. Rob for making the arrangement process easy.
Rosary service will be Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 6:00 p.m., followed by a vigil at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow in the Calvary Cemetery. I had met Ruth but never really got to know her.
I knew Ray from the VA. He and I were union officers for a while together then I ended up taking over his position as treasurer and he had to teach me what to do because I didn’t have a clue. Ha
So sorry to know that now you have lost both of the parents and grand parents.
May they both rest in peace. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Linda ( I think I was Valley when I knew them) Meidinger and Richard
