Ruth Ross, age 85, of Gillette, Wyoming, died October 13, 2004, at her home in Gillette of natural causes.
Ruth Naomi Ross was born March 9, 1919, the daughter of Will and Agnes (Galusha) Dempsey in Clay Center, Nebraska. She was raised and educated on the family farm near Alliance, Nebraska with six brothers and sisters. Ruth received her primary education in a country school near the farm. She worked various jobs including a large farm in Illinois until she came to Gillette, Wyoming to see her oldest brother. She was employed by the local dry cleaning service in Gillette, where she met Keith Ross. On September 15, 1945, Ruth married Keith Ross in Billings, Montana. The family lived and worked on local ranches until they had to move into Gillette so the boys could go to school.Ruth enjoyed many things: working the jobs she could and caring for the family. Ruth and Keith operated the only plant nursery in Gillette for many years. Her love for flowers and growing plants of all types stayed with her until the day she passed. Upon Keiths death, she became quite active in her local church. She loved making quilts and especially embroidering tea towels.Ruth is survived by her son, Perry Ross of Gillette, Wyoming; step-son, David Ross of Moorcroft, Wyoming; her daughter-in-law, Vicki Olaughlin, her brother, Emery Dempsey of Alliance, Nebraska; her sister, Blanche Sokol of Valentine, Nebraska; and several nieces nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1992, a son, Leonard Dempsey in 1976, and four siblings.
Memorial services for Ruth Ross will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 21, 2004, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Gillette, Wyoming with Pastor Scott Firminhac officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette.A memorial has been established in Ruths name to benefit the Trinity Lutheran Church of Gillette.
