Ruth Elaine Thomas, age 85, of Miles City, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on January 25, 2008 at the Billings Clinic in Billings, MT.

Ruth was born on October 3, 1922 in Rugby, North Dakota the daughter of Stanley A. and Mary (Coates) Spillum. On July 28, 1940 she and Walter Thomas were married and they made their home at Cat Creek for twenty years. In 1960, they moved to the Glasscock Ranch at Rock Springs where they resided until moving to Miles City in 1976.

Ruth worked in the fabric department at Tempos and Ben Franklin advising many in their sewing needs. She retired in 1992.

Grandma Ruth was famous for her homemade goodies. Her passion in life were her family, friends, ranching, baking sewing, crocheting, gardening and in her later years playing cards at the drop in center to keep her mind sharp.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Dorcas McWilliams of Miles City, Daisy (Bob) Selman of Powderville, her brothers Stanley Spillum of Conrad, grandchildren, Dean and Jay Selman, Ralph and Stewart McWilliams, Marcene McDonnell and Michelle Mitchell, numerous Great-Grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Walter, son Bill, grandson Denny, her brother BayardSpillum, and a son-in-law Curt McWilliams.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery.
