Sander Judine Waller, 93, died April 24, 2004 at Northeast Montana Health Services in Wolf Point, MT.
He was born May 23, 1910 in Twin Valley, Minnesota. At six weeks, he came by train to Culbertson and from Culbertson to Homestead, MT in horse and buggy with his parents, Helmer and Ida Waller. He attended school in Homestead until he joined the Cattle Frye Company as a farm hand. During the 1930s he worked for the Conservation Corps and in the 1940s he served his country in France and Germany during World War II as a medic. Upon returning from the war, he re-joined the Homestead Grain Elevator Company and was employed there until his retirement in 1972.
After his retirement he moved to Wolf Point with his wife, Beulah and became active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. He volunteered with the Wolf Point Headstart Program, and the Wolf Point schools and served as the violin player for the RVSP band. He played regularly with the Band at the Faith Lutheran Nursing Home and the Poplar Nursing Home, as well as other northeast Montana events. He was named Montana Senior Citizen of the Year by then Governor Ted Schwinden in 1986. He was active and an award winning Montana Fiddler with the Montana Fiddlers Association. He belonged to the American Legion and Wolf Point Assembly of God Church.
Sander is survived by his wife Beulah Glaze Waller, whom he married on December 22, 1946. He has three children; Katherine Stahl of Bismarck, ND; Bruce of Lewistown, MT; and Tony of Falls Church, VA. He has four grandchildren, Kristi and Andrew Stahl, and Cody and Aaron Waller.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Wolf Point. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
