Sharon Marie Campbell Clelland passed away on December 23, 2018 at her home in Miles City, MT with her family by her side.
Sharon was the oldest girl out of 9 children born to Fred and Bessie Willis Campbell. She was born July 20th, 1939 in Lewistown, Montana. She lived with her parents and oldest brother Robert in Winifred, Montana for a few months and Sharon stayed with her grand parents while her parents moved to the Kinsey project to make a living farming. Her grand parents brought her to Kinsey when they got some running water and electricity. Sharon grew up the rest of her young years in Kinsey and went to 8 years of schooling in Kinsey before coming to high school in Miles City, graduating from Custer County High School. She was very involved with the community and was in 4-H and the Kinsey Community Church and church choir. She took her communion classes as well as did her other class mates from Rev. James Hunter and became a member of the Methodist church in 1953. She said they were taught the values of life through hard work and many family values. They did almost everything together as a family, whether it was watching a ball game on Sunday, fishing or having a big neighborhood picnic with home made fried chicken and homemade ice cream. Her Dad coached the Kinsey baseball team for 23 years and they did some traveling on Sunday to games. They worked hard during the week days, but Sunday consisted of church and family. Sharon worked for the ASC office in town her senior year as she had enough credits to graduate and worked and lived on her own in town her senior year. She married Clinton Stanhope and to this union 4 children were born. David Gene 1957, Randall Dean 1960, Shelly Jo 1962 and Sharon Marie 1963. She later divorced and moved from Baker back to Miles City and continued to work for MDU as that is who she worked for in Baker, Montana. Sharon was always proud of her children and how they grew up and became hard workers and all had good jobs. She bragged many times about her children and their accomplishments. In August of 1968, Sharon married the love of her life Stanley Clelland and through this marriage she acquired 3 more boys, Steven, Scott, and Stanford. When she married Stan, she learned how to play a guitar and self taught herself. They had a band in Idaho and then came to Montana and formed another band here and traveled many weekends along with playing locally. Sharon worked for John Etchemendy for 14 years, then went to work for First Interstate Bank for 22 years as their proof operator. She led many activities at the bank and they had the top Relay for Life team moneywise 2 or 3 years. They earned money through their bake sales. Sharon also was a big leader for March of Dimes for 25 years and earned every local and state award there was. She never did these things for the awards, but only to help the children and also cancer survivors. She was a cancer survivor 2 times and she was going through another bout just lately. Sharon was very active with her children being involved with their activities of rodeoing and Girl Scouts. She was the neighborhood chairman for 11 years and she also was a leader and Sharon developed many life long friendships through her community involvement. After retiring from the bank, Sharon went to work for the Miles City school system and worked for them for 11 or 12 years and loved her job and the kids. She became very involved with the school and said she should have went on to be a teacher. Her main concern was always for the children and her co-workers. Sharon along with Bob Nees started a basketball program in Miles City 44 years ago so the 5th and 6th graders would have something to do. At this time, they had 12 boys and 12 girls teams every season. They would intramural the teams and have a big tournament in the end. Sharon is still doing this program and have had thousands of children go through this program. Now she jokingly would say, now I have the grandkids of the original kids. Sharon was a very dedicated person in anything she did. She was awarded a plaque 2 times from the Chamber of Commerce and also a state award for her involvement with the basketball program and they had to trick her into coming to Billings for the award. Sharon was very involved with her church and lived her religion everyday. She served on many of the church committees. Sharon in very proud of her kids and grandkids. She is survived by 4 children, David (Debra) of Roberts, Randy (Janet) of Forsyth, MT; Shelly Jo (Jack) Weger of Sheridan, WY and Sherry in Glendive, MT and 3 stepsons, Steve (Jayne) Meridian, ID; Scott, (Gretchen) Twin Falls, ID and Stanford (Paula) Twin Falls, ID; 12 grandchildren, and 5 great grand children. She is also survived by 1 brother Jack Campbell, (Sue) Helena, and 4 sisters, Frankie Christiansen, Great Falls, Kathy Randall, (Archie) Cheyenne, WY, Glenda Jackson, Miles City, and Tamara Foley, Butte. She is also survived by her loving husband Stanley. She is survived by many special nieces and nephews who she spent many hours playing cards and games with and they loved her so much for that. She had 2 special great nephews Quayde and Cory who thought their Aunt Sharon walked on water. She is also survived by 6 or 7 kids in Miles City who called her Grandma Sharon and she treated them like her own grand kids remembering them on their birthdays and holidays. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Bessie Campbell, sister Nancy Campbell and 2 brothers Robert Leslie and Freddie Campbell Junior. Sharon’s extended family was Rick, Deena Nees and girls Marissa and Makayla, Blackie and Carol Schneider and their 3 children and families, also Lawrence and Peggy (O’Dea) Geiser (Sharon nurse next door) and Anna, and also Curt, Cheri, and children, Josh, Zach, C. J. and Chloe from Missoula, Eric Blind, Audrey & Greg Blind, Glen Shores, David Parent, Marcia T. Sharon loved the kids and always had some coming for popsicles and candy.
