Sharon Coleen Brewer Martens, age 71, peacefully passed away in her sleep on November 11th, 2013.
Sharon was born to Francis and Adrienne (Groombridge) Brewer on Feb. 14th 1942, the second of three kids. Sharon grew up on the family farm east of Forsyth. She attended Forsyth High School, graduating in 1960. While in school, Sharon was active in 4-H, showing her cattle, riding her horse, or working on sewing projects. She was in Rainbow for Girls, serving as worthy advisor. She was in choir, twirling, and played the piano and accordion. After graduating from high school she went to the Denver Business College and graduated in 1962. She returned to Forsyth and worked for the Rosebud County Attorney’s office.
Sharon married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Duane Martens on August, 17, 1963. Together they made a life farming and ranching, and raising their three children, Doug, Tammy, and Scott in the Forsyth and Vananda areas.
Sharon enjoyed camping, bowling, and playing cards, especially canasta and pinochle. She loved to read her Harlequin Romance novels and carried a book in her purse everywhere she went. Sharon loved to dance with Duane, and they danced every chance they had. She always said she had taught him everything he knew about dancing. She was a true country girl; she loved to take rides through the pastures looking at the cows, and to drive to the highest hill to watch the thunder and lightning storms roll in. Going on walks was one of her favorite things when the weather was nice, sometimes walking three miles a night. She was a 4-H leader, a Rainbow mother, served as a judge for the Rosebud County Spelling Bee and worked as an election judge for many years.
Sharon’s most treasured asset was her family. She would do anything for her family and was the number one fan of her grandkids, attending every activity, whether it be concerts, plays, or sporting events. She loved cooking lunch for the family, some days having up to eight people and other days having one, but, the meal was always hot, good, and appreciated. She always had caramel popcorn balls for Halloween, and would hang them on her Christmas tree. She also made the best Scotcharoos for her grandkids when they wanted them.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Duane, her daughter, Tammy, her mother and father, a sister, Connie Essex, and nephew, Timmy Essex.
She is survived by her sons, Doug (Jenell) Martens, Scott (Melanie) Martens, Son-in-Law, Robert (Gina) Sorenson, eight grandchildren, Dustin (Becky) Martens, Kordelle (Tyler) Stephenson, Riley, Dylan, and Tanner Sorenson, and Aeriel, Logan, and Morgan Martens, her brother, Kevin (JoAnn) Brewer, a Brother-in-Law, Terry (Garnet) Essex, and several nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by everyone she knew.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorials be made to the Rosebud County Nursing Home Blanket Warmer Fund, PO Box 500, Forsyth, MT 59327 or to the Friends & Family Fund, PO Box 957, Forsyth, MT 59327.

Sharon was my cousin .. I had just payed her a visit on Sunday .. tho she didn’t speak much, she held my hand tightly. We (I) talked about our childhood .. her mom and dad and the ranch! Tho not close for our aging years, she was such a part of my early years and my fondest memories .. I wish her peace.

Sharon was my buddy in 4-H, at church, at school and in Rainbow too. She and Duane were married just the day before Ron and I were married. I loved her cheery smile and her infectious laugh. May God Bless and Comfort each of you as you miss her each day. She was a blessing to those who knew her.
In HIS Love,
Nancy and Ron Aasland
