Shelly Lynn (Fortune) Longfox, age 44, of Hays, Montana formerly of Miles City passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2004 at the Benefis East Hospital in Great Falls.

Shelly was born in Quinn, South Dakota on July 2, 1960, the daughter of Vern and Wildene (White) Fortune. In 1962, she moved with her family from South Dakota to the family ranch near Miles City where she loved raising her 4-H steers and working cattle. She attended Garland Country School and graduated from Custer County High School. Following her schooling, she remained in Miles City where she worked with racehorses and met and married Leon Longfox. They made their home in Billings, Montana and in 1996, they moved to Hayes where they had lived since.

Shelly loved to do crafts, work in her flower gardens, and tell jokes. Shelly was very encouraging and supporting of her children and their activities, Morgann with her piano lessons, basketball, Native Indian Dance, and Brandon with his FFA, Rodeo, and Football. Shelly truly loved all of her nieces and nephews.

Shelly is survived by her husband, Leon Longfox of Hays, MT; her son, Brandon Longfox of Hays, MT; her daughter, Morgann Longfox of Hays, MT; her mother, Wildene Fortune of Miles City, MT; her father and step mother, Vern and Bea Fortune of Kyle, SD; her grandmother, Vernice White of Miles City, MT; five sisters: Susan Wells and her husband Ron of Miles City, MT; Janice Fortune of Billings, MT; Kathy Baugatz and her husband Lee of Miles City, MT; Darcy Boggs and her husband Les of Baker, MT; and Stacy Fortune and her husband Stacy Butts of Billings, MT.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, a sister, Denise Fortune; a brother, Todd Fortune; a step-son, Leon Longfox Jr., a brother-in-law, Bill Pauley; and a niece Abby Jo Michal.

Arrangements are entrusted by Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.
